    when i get to choose wut goes on my disc, for audio it says Dolby digital 5, 390mb and then 3 options for doly digital 2 each, 160mb. Do i need all of those? what happens if i uncheck 1 or all of them?

    Usually you have multiple languages, maybe Director's commentaries.
    You can check/uncheck any that you don't need.
    If you can play a movie using Dolby digital 5.1 then you probably want to leave only that and un-check all other.
    Some DVD player can't play Dolby 5.1 so if you leave only that track you won't be able to listen to the audio. So be careful.
    For portability, I usually leave both Dolby 5.1 and Dolby 2
    I never listen to director's commentaries but that's just me.

    The less sound-tracks you have, the less you'll have to compress the video data to fit on a DVD5 (I'm assuming you're using Nero Recode to "shrink" a DVD9 to a DV5).
    The less you have to compress your video, the better the quality would be.

    well my wedding crashers dvd has 1 dolby 5.1 and 3 dolby 2's. Since my dvd player isn't 5.1 i was thinking of removing that one and removing 2 of the dolby 2's, idk why i need 3 of them?

    also how much compression b4 i notice a difference in quality, example, for some reason RoadTrip, even though its just an hour and a half is over 4.5gb and wants to be compressed between 86-93% depending on wut i do with sound

    You can get rid of all the audio and just keep the 5.1, your dvd player will demux down to 2 channel if you don't have 5.1.

    yea but 5.1 takes up like three times as much space as 2, thats why i dont want to include it

    If you have a movie that has Directors Comments and only do 2 channel then you will only get these Comments and no movie audio. It is best to keep to the 5.1 on backups.

    are u sure if it doesn't support 5.1 it'll revert to 2? i heard that if 5.1 isn't supported it just wont work. Also is 85% compression noticeable

    I do all mine in 5.1 and they work on all my players even my portable. I do not have home theater in every room. At 85% you should have a good backup, if you are worried then do deep analysis and slow recode with the program. I use Recode for the majority of backups and the output is excellent.

    Why don't you just try an experiment. Take RW disc and write the movie with just the Dolby5.1 and see if your player will demux it. If it does then just keep the dolby 5.1. Then in the future when you get a capable player that plays Dolby5.1 then your dvds will be at the ready! If there was a mono sound option offered that made compression less, you wouldn't select it would you?

    @lesstjake

    Just do the 5.1 for main movie and uncheck ALL the others. Yes it will work just like arniebear suggests. If you want even less compression, try removing some of the unwanted start or end of the movie that will not make any difference.

    You're throwing away the best sound track and keeping the sh*t. If the worst you get is 86% compression with all sound tracks then keep them all. It would be hard for you to tell the difference between 86% and 100%
