Every thing appears to be upto date except for nero, you should be at version 6.6.1.4. get it here: http://www.nero.com/nero6/enu/nero-up.php You're absolutely right when you stated that "i think ive gone from cheap to cheaper" Here, nero states the same thing: ******************************************************************** 1:54:42 PM #11 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2483 Recorder: _NEC DVD+-RW ND-6500A, Media type: DVD-R Disc Manufacturer: DAXON0 - 16S Disc Application Code: 64, Disc Physical Code: 193 1:54:42 PM #12 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 448 >>> Protocol of DlgWaitCD activities: <<< ========================================= Insert empty disc to write to. (Medium in drive: unknown. Medium required by compilation: DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R DL.) ******************************************************************** Your recorder just doesn't like that media and since it's firmware is up to date, that only way to correct this is to throw that cheap stuff away and get sony or verbatim disks (made in japan).
Have you checked your firmware? The latest firmware for your drive is 424, not 203d (sorry). http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/FIRMWARE/Nec/Nec-ND-6500A-firmware-424.shtml Actually the Nero version he's running is the latest Nero 6 that is still compatable with DVD Shrink. Alot of people are going back to the version 6.6.0.18 because the newer doesn't like shrink.
Is exactly what I was gonna quote, but i answered first a different thread and Johnl got first to it! Is the burner a Dell OEM? If it is,he firmware looks up to date .
