Hi CFC123,
Some of the drivers for the USB adapters do no work when flashing the boxes, i think certain laptop BIOS can be problematic also, you could try googling for some other USB to Serial drivers until you find one that works. I cant remember where i eventually found the driver for my laptop, just keep trying different ones.
The simplest way however is use a friends laptop or PC that has a serial port so you do not need to use your adapter.

mantas42, you need to flash the box once initially in order to use the update menu for future flashes.

 

yes your right you can but you have put the firmware onto the box 1st then you can do it via the menu

 

Just wish I could load the firmware tried all day giving up until I get my second wind.

I very much doubt you have a duff box, many people struggle with USB to serial adapters, some people say only use XP, some say Vista. end of the day it is usually incompatible drivers with a given Op System, even though device manager is clean. If you are not computer friendly at installing drivers and setting up com ports etc. Find someone with a PC that has a serial port you can connect your null cable direct to, and it takes away the trouble.

Is there any maintenance today? My 780 went off overnight, only getting fta and scrambled channels now. All up to date, net working and Rescanned but no luck.

 

havent heard of other cases, did you check you provider website to see if there is an an outage?

Yeah my internet is fine... I'm on it now. And the traffic and weather Apps on the box work!?

 

no I mean, did you check the virgin media maintenance page to see if there is a cable outage, not your internet

 

My Internet is working though ... I'm on it now! And if there was a cable outage with regards to tv then surely the box wouldn't see the channels when it scanned?

 

I am not asking about your internet, I am asking you did you check to see if there was a problem in your area on the VM maintenance page, cause this will cause a loss of chans or break up etc

 

Hi thanks for advice where do I get the above installer. I have loaded a prolific driver and my Com port appears to be correctly set up properly it is just not downloading the firmware to my box I am trying to use a fujitsu laptop. Cheers K

 

I'm still down... No area issues, Internet working, box up to date, Rescanned... Still scrambled.??? Any ideas?

 

Must be your area mate. I've not lost a single channel for a couple of weeks now.

All seems fine in Teesside, my boxes went off for approx 1hr a few nights ago, together with some i have installed for others (no Maint showed on VM,) but nothing like this long. I take it you have flicked the main power switch off and on. All you can do is sit tight i suppose.
