I got Nero OEM with my computer purchase. I downloaded shrink and decryptor and burned several DVDs successfully. I started having problems with some of the newer flicks. The burn process would error and end burning, complete burning and would have several skips, or complete burning and wouldn't play. So, I downloaded ANYDVD and CloneDVD2 last night and thought it would work. After several hours I backed up The Dukes of Hazzards and burned with Nero. The burn was successful, but it would play...Help. Do I need to download a new version of Nero??? Or, is the problem with the decryption process...

You need to answer a couple questions ...

What brand DVD are you recording onto?

When you're processing and burning your DVD, are you running anything in the background?
You need to shutdown ALL other programs .. ie, anti-virus, firewall, auto-updates, screensavers ... etc

What brand burner are you using? Are you booktyping?

aaron0413 since you have clonedvd 2 with anydvd THATS all you need ,clonedvd 2 will encode shrink and burn all in one proccess. use this guide to help

    http://bbmayo.home.comcast.net/

and use better blank media (Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim) and burn at 4x max.

and as said if your using dvd+r booktype to dvd-rom with your burner or use dvd-r

and dont run other programs while burning

BTW the lastest verison of nero is 6.6.0.18 if your not running that verison update but as said all you need is clonedvd 2 with anydvd to backup your dvds

    Thanks for the info...
catfreak...I am a newbie at this, so let me try to answer your questions.

    Brand DVD is Memorex 8x 120min DVD+R.

I know that my screensaver is running, other than that I am not sure.

My burner is DVD+-R came with my e-Machine package.

aabbccdd...thanks so much. I am in the process of updating my nero. I hope that is my problem...and turning off my screensaver.

Skipping, freezing, and pixilating are all signs of either burning too fast, or using bad media. Memorex is [bold]BAD[/bold] media. Much of it is made by CMC magnetics A.K.A. The Evil Empire.. Try GOOD media like Verbatim, or Sony, Fuji, Maxell made in japan. Burn at 4x, use good media, and follow the advice given by aabbccdd . Your hard drive may also be fragmented. You should de-frag often if you rip movies often. A badly fragged HD can inject skipping to movies being burned.

You had to know that I was going to ask what is de-frag and how do I do that?
I will get different media, b/c the entire case of DVDs are now coasters + I will change my speed to 4X and download a new version of nero. thanks for your help.

To defrag your HD in windows, go to All Programs>acessories>Windows Explorer. Click on the root directory of C: drive and do a right click. Properties is one of the selections. Click on that. One of the Tabs is Tools, click on that, and 2nd option down is Defrag HD. There are other programs out there, but thats the one in windows.

If you're running XP I'd prefer going to:

All Programs > Accessories > Systrm Tools > Disc Cleanup

When the disc is clean ...

All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disc Defrag.

After the disc has been analyzsd, you will be told if the disc needs to be defragged or not ... I ignore this and defrag anyway

Well, it looks like DMA went off on both drives.
Here is alkohol's guide to fixing that:
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038
vers 7 is up to 7.0.1.4b now. Not sure what the "b" did, but it is an update.
    http://www.nero.com/nero7/enu/nero7-demo.php

Your burning too close to the edge of the disc. Set your target size to Custom 4300. Its one of the pulldowns for burn settings in Nero, you might have to click on the More tab to see it. This is one other thing that can cause skipping/freezing at end of disc, the media coverage is spotty or missing on many of those CMC discs at the edge of the disc.
    and
That is all it takes to get your original problem posted. CMC discs sux. Change the media to Verbatim or sony, fuji, maxell, last 3 made in japan. Your system (and most others) hates this media
    also your firmware is behind:
    Latest vers looks like GA04
    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1911
    and
that ones firmware is waaay behind. Looks like you need 1.10
    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2068

your not doing too badly with memory, but try closing down programs not needed when burning, and don't multi-task while burning. Just something to keep an eye on.
Fix those things, and change media. You will probably be a happy burner soon, once you toss those CMCs. Post back if you have problems after the updates.

Great! Glad it works for you now. Another happy burner! Now you can see why many of us hate those memorex or as we like to call them [bold]MEMOSUX[/bold]. Too bad a company that was know for quality media, chose to use CMC as their supplier. CMC + MEMOREX = MEMOSUX or a big steaming pile of crapola.

    @shetty79,
Lets see what we have here in your log:
Your nero is behind. The latest 6x is 6.6.0.18 and you can get it at Nero:
    http://www.nero.com/nero6/enu/nero-up.php

for this drive the firmware needs updating:
you are at TS08 and it looks like you need to be at TS11
    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1911
DMA is OFF for this drive, and needs to be ON. How to fix it? http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038
you are trying to rip with the bare minimum of memory. Most suggest 512MB as the minimum. It can be done with 255MB, but you have to free up as much memory as possible.
Try this free program to free up memory:
    http://www.download.com/RAMBooster/3000-2086_4-10465453.html?tag=lst-0-8
Or buy some more memory for the computer to bring it up to 512MB or more.
I don't know who made those discs, but they don't sound like very good discs. Try some Verbatim. Or Sony, Maxell, Fuji, only if made in japan is on the label. Verbatim and Taiyo Yudens are the only discs i use anymore.
    Probably caused by the media.
Oh, and did you notice you were doing a mult-session? This keeps the disc open, not finalized. That is useful on DVD+RW because you can add and erase. On a normal DVD5, that would only be useful if you planned on adding more stuff to the disc later.
In the burn settings on Nero, there is a box that should be checked:
and in other burn screens there is a box that says something like finalize disc, no further data will be added, or something like that.

Hi there Gear79 buddy! The nero forum seems to be my home more often now. I actually like looking thru the logs for errors (i know, i am strange). I will probably never catch up to you gear79 because you use crack, and that give you a speed advantage LOL.. I guess i better stop saying that, or ppl might start hitting you up for some rocks.. :) I had way too much fun with that "Bargin" post.. :)
Everytime i see your flaming wrench/crack pipe in your sig, i get a laugh.

You're the best Maxburn!! Thanks God I found this forum! I had pretty much the same problem as shetty79 and I'd wasted about at least 15 dvds. But I followed your guide and I don't know exactly which part did it but it works perfect now! Thank you so much!
