What is an average time using Nero recode 2 to compress and burn a dvd? It seems like it takes me a really long time to burn dvds. It takes movies about 1 1/2 hours to backup and it took me almost 2 hours to backup my Simpsons. Is this normal? And is there anything I can do to speed it up? Thanks

I see someone just beat me to this question. Any feedback would still be appreciated. Thanks.

There are three separate events in your question if I take it that you are copying an original dvd (for backup purposes of course), compressing so that it will fit on a single-layer dvd, and the burning the new dvd image.

    1. copy of the original dvd: this shouldn't take anymore than 10 minutes or so, but will depend upon the speed and fragmentation of the hard drive you are using.
    2. compressing the movie (recode): will depend on how much compression is required and the quality of the compression you are looking for (single-pass or 2-pass). I have seen this take as little as 20 minutes and as long as 3.5 hours. Much of it depends on what else you are doing on the system. To keep compression size down, make sure to cut-out extra audio etc. that you don't need.
    3. burning compressed dvd back to dvd: depends on the speed of your burner and the media, but anything more that 30 minutes would be ridiculous.

    Hope this is helpful
