1024 mb of ram

    ok i just installed a 1.0gb ram(1024mb ) but the pc is only reading
    496mb .why aint it reading the rest here is the specs......

    if put in a single 1 gig ram stick in but board maxes out at 1 gig than each ram slot can't that much at once. could also be compatibilty problem between the ram & motherboard

    i only have in the one ram 1.gb the other slot is empty . so what you are saying is it will never work????????

    according to your board info than no. check your motherboard manual to see what each ram slot can handle max tho appears to be 512meg. reason of difference in 512meg & 496meg is that the onboard video is using 16meg.

    thanx how do i get the mother board manual????? i guess i could just put my 256 next to itAND BE DONE WITH IT what do you think????????

    i checked compaq site & no motherboard manual. could check out a new board that can fit in your case, handle your cpu & read that 1gig of ram in 1 slot.

    ijust put my 256 next to it now i have 725mb ram its a shame i dont have 1.0gb like planned i only paid $57.00 for that 1.0gb stick how much ram do you have ddp

    right now 2x256meg ddr for 512meg

    its propable not worth sending that ram back and just put in 512 in place of that 1.0gb i think the dfference is about 15.00 the reason i wanted more ram is when i am using nero and open up ie it takes a little longer. i hope going from 364 to 725 helps what do you think ddp

    should work & also close all other programs when burning disks to free up resources.

    see what your resources sit at with the 1gig stick installed & not installed.

    go to www.crucial.com and run the system scanner after a few mins it will tell u how much memory you can put in ur pc and whats the max u can have in each slot

    it will help you as i have a customer go from 512 to 1gig & noticed a performance increase. just wondering what your resources sat at with original ram & combined ram.
