Which is better. I have a MKV movie with these specs:

    8.6 GB
    1280x528
    average 6 Mbps

It looks great and perfectly crisp on my HDTV.

I've seen another with these specs:

    1920x1080p (AVCHD disc PS3-ready format)
    avg 6 Mbps
    7.90 GB

What would be better, higher resolution or the extra half GB file size?

remember, it depends on your screen size. if the total number of pixels of the movie is the same as your screen then it hardly makes a difference. if the movie has less pixels then getting the greater one would look better.

I have a 1080p TV, so I guess that answers my question.

so your tv res is approx 2000 by 1080 which means your current vid is only half the size of your screen. so your tv would be zooming it 2x

Got the AVCHD, it looks slightly sharper than the other file. Thanks.
