    Hi,

I decided to start a new thread as this doesn't relate to copyright protection or brand of DVD+R DL as my previous thread was about and I think to understand the previous thread there was too much scattered info to read to understand the problem, so the shortened and new version is here ....

    I recently wasted 15 dual layer DVD+R DL's.
Whenever I tried to copy a DVD+R DL they would seem to copy fine except for when I'd put them in my DVD players they would grind around and not read at all.
Over the 15 failed burns I tried copying using different methods / programs etc, ImageBurn, Decrypter ISO read / write etc, hard drive to Nero etc
    They all failed.

Today I made the changes below after 15 DVD+R DL coasters then copied 2 different DVD's successfully in a row, straight after I made these changes !
Out of the 2 successful burns I made one was a Verbatim DVD+R DL and the other was a TDK DVD+R DL, so this really doesn't seem to be an issue with the brand of DVD.

*I noticed on my computer that local disc D has an enormous amount of space compared to local disc C.

    So:

*I changed "Path for Cache" in Nero from C drive to D drive.

*I changed Nero's Temp files, Picture files and Imported Video files from C drive to D drive.

*In Nero Transcoding Quality-Quality Setting I changed it from "Standard Play" to "High Quality" and I changed Encoding Mode from "Fast Encoding (1 Pass)" to "High Quality (2 Pass VBR)", but this was in another mode (Nero Vision Express) - this actually wasn't an option in the mode I used (Nero Express) when I made the successful burn so I'm not sure what effect those changes had.

*I also deleted the version of "DVD Decrypter" I had been using and downloaded and used "DVD Fab Decrypter 3".

I opened Nero Express, selected DVD-Video Files, add the AUDIO TS and VIDEO TS folders from my hard drive and successfully burned.
That's the same way I used to burn DVD+R DL DVD's months ago before I got the 15 coasters....

Today I went to copy a 3rd DVD and it's burning coasters again, so I tried to copy one of the 2 DVD's I successfully copied earlier today but it turned out as a coaster also ....

Does anyone have any ideas why after 15 coasters I successfully burned 2 in a row after making the changes I listed above, and now I'm back to burning coasters (doing everything exactly the same as I did when I made the 2 successful burns).

I think this is the end of DL burning for me....

    Thanks again.

Nope not Sony, it's a hybrid I didn't put together myself, but everyone who knows about computers has told me it's quite a decent set up.
I have no idea what reformating my hard drive is, but it sounds like it's a very technical and enormous job...

Dang 15 wasted disc? Seems to me you need to go to the store and get some Dual-Layer re-writables till you have fixed your problem.

Have you recently added any new hardware or a program to your computer when you started having this trouble? Did you change the media you where using when this started happening?

All of this could come in account of why you are having trouble. You could have also been infected with AddWare/Mallware so it might be good to scan for that as well.

If you still have trouble then maybe find a Friend that is Tech savvy and ask them to help or ask them to do a fresh install (Formatting and installing a fresh copy of your OS)

Seems to me you have installed and uninstalled allot of different programs while trouble shooting this problem and you have changed options in Nero and moved the folders etc. This all could be apart of your problem as well.

But I would suggest first getting some Dual-Layer re-writables and use them till you find and fix the problem.
