I give up. Anyone know what it is or what it means or more importnat how do I get rid of it? A long story which I will make short. I got Adobe PhotoDeluxe 3.0 I loaded it on my laptop w/Windows XP. fine no problem. smooth as silk. Then I try the same disk on my desktop PC and insted of it loading I get the "16-bit Windows Subsystem ...C:\WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/AUTOEXEC.NT The system file is not suitable dor DOS and Microsoft windows applications Can someone tell me what happened or perhaps what hasn't happened. Go to your Windows/Repair folder -- you will see a fresh copy of AUTOEXEC.NT -- right click it..--> copy.. then proceed to your windows/System32 folder ... right click anywhere ---> Paste. Your problem should be solved. !

Click My Computer Click Open your C: drive Look for the folder labelled WINDOWS and click it OPEN Look for a folder named REPAIR click it OPEN Look for a file named AUTOEXEC.NT -- right click it and select COPY Close that folder You should still be in your C: drive ...Windows Locate the SYSTEM32 folder - click it open Now put your cursor on an empty space, and Right click Select PASTE. -- You should get a small window asking you if its Ok to replace the AUTOEXEC.NT thats in there.. Answer YES. Close all windows. You are done. And you should be Ok now. Edited for a typo !
Rog, 1) Click on MY COMPUTER. You should have the icon on your desktop or in your START menu. 2) Click on your hard drive icon. 3) Click on the WINDOWS folder. 4) Inside this is the REPAIR folder. 5) Inside the REPAIR folder you should see an AUTOEXEC.NT file. Right-click it, and click copy. 6) Go back to your WINDOWS folder. Inside should be a SYSTEM 32 folder. Click on it. 7) Inside SYSTEM 32, right-click anywhere and click paste. If it asks you "would you like to replace the existing file?" click 'yes', and you're all done!
No offense Haz3 but somehow if you knew this I wouldn't classify yourself as a newbie. Now I'm a true newbie and have been for two years since I switched from Mac to PC One last question before I try your suggestions. I made a restore point. If after I've done what you suggested and I messed up my PC further can I go back to the restore point and will all my damage be undone?
If you have made a restore point with the bad AUTOEXEC.NT in your Pc -- going back to that point will not help ! It will bring you back to square One. Doing what was explained to you... will not mess up your Pc.. UNLESS you do it wrong..!
Well, I can't control my classification. Me being a newbie has nothing to do with my knowledge it has everything to do with how many posts I've made. The reason I can help with your problem is because the same thing happened to me a few months back. If you follow our instructions you shouldn't have any problems.
