    Hi all,
    Newbie here. I'm starting to convert vhs family video tapes to DVD's.
    I'm using my VCR to copy to my Humax DRT800 (TiVo) HDD then burning to DVD in the same unit. My 1st attempt spans 3 DVD's, which all play back fine. I ran the 3 DVD's through DVD Shrink ande burned to one DVD with Nero6 Ultra Edition. On playback in the Humax the video & sound quality is very good but the video freezes after many minutes of play. It doesn't freeze at the title seams. I'm using TDK 8X DVD-R47DCB25 media.

    Can anybody see any problems or things I should change in the log below?

    Also, My goal is to edit my family movies, just simple shortening or removing scenes. I thought Nero6 could edit video but don't see where to do it. Do I need additional software to edit video, if so what is recomended?

    Thanks so much for any help.

    I am not seeing anything wrong in your log, but there are others more experienced than me in reading them. Your burner firmware is up to date, you have plenty of memory, you are using decent media, your DMA settings are fine. The only thing I see is that you are burning too close to the edge you may want to reduce your size in the future to 4334. If you want to edit video I suggest you try the Nero Vision Express and not the Nero Express. Here is a guide

    @jstin -

    - that's way old now - try latest 6.6.0.15

    - firmware is out of date. Version PDS7 is here - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1965

    - you're burning to outer edge of discs

    - hmmm.. what's happened there

    - do you use Nero's InCD as it can annoy standard Nero

    I'll try to figure out how to update Nero, firmware and set size to 4334 as Arniebear suggested.

    - hmmm.. what's happened there
    I had my Nero disk in the drive. I replaced it with the DVD-R disk and resumed.

    - do you use Nero's InCD as it can annoy standard Nero
    I did install InCD, I'm not sure if it was before or after this project. I've since used Nero clean up to uninstall & reinstalled without InCD.

    Thanks to both of you for helping me, I'll make the suggested changes & try again.

    @creaky

    I hesitated on the firmware in case it was a Dell computer, in which case it is sometimes better to go to the Dell site to see what they have and recommend.

    i guessed so.. i try not to get bogged down with firmware - i look at what's currently in use and go from there. we can't of course tell if the wrong firmware has been applied previously so i just go by what's there and recommend a newer one.

    Yes I am using a Dell, Inspiron 9300. Should I go to Dell for firmware or use the link that Creaky provided above?

    As always Thanks!

    Ok, I've got everything updated.

    I was wondering if after a burn doesn't work out real good if it's best to start completely over, ie. re:DVD Shrink then burn with Nero or can I just burn the same shrunk files over again?

    I've read that DVD-ROM is the most widely compatible format. What are the opinions here on that? Can Nero burn in DVD-ROM format?

    Also, I plan on doing some editing (home movies), is this the correct order to do things in?
    1)DVD Shrink, 2)edit (NeroVision Express), 3)Burn (NeroBurning ROM)

    Thank you very much.

    to get the files to the 4300MB do the Shrink again.

    as to the dvd-rom format, provided your drive can 'book type' or 'bitset' +R discs to dvd-rom format then you effectively fool standalone players to think the burnt disc is actually a pressed dvd-rom such as a movie you buy in the shops. i did a quick google and i think your drive can (it's a rebadged Liteon SOSW-852S). Nero does the bitsetting too, as do Liteon-specific utils and the odd other util.

    I've usually stuck to -R discs as i've had no problems on the equipment i use, but i've just started using +R discs and bitset them to dvd-rom format, and still use -R discs quite a lot.

    As to home editing, i don't do any, i'm lazy and just do movie backups the simplest ways i can. I don't use Nerovision either so won't comment on which order to do things

    IMO if you are going to do some editing then use Nero Vision Express first, because you do not know how big your file will be. If it comes out larger than 4.3g then save it to file and use Shrink and burn with Nero.
