I love this new software (DVDFab), which I just discovered this week, in another forum. But do you think that the quality is just as good as Nero? And I see no way to adjust it, like in Nero, where you can set it to analyze longer for a better burn. Also, if I purchase it, do I have to buy a separate version for HD movies, or does one of its versions cover everything?
Yes. I think the quality is just as good using Platinum to transcode and burn vis the VSO engine. AFAIK FabPlatinum does not support HD yet. Someone correct me if I am wrong on that one.
Dvdfab's burn engine is top notch, but the best burn engine IMHO is imgburn. To me it does a much better job than Nero, and it's free too. Dvdfab does do some HD movies, but a few updates ago they announced they would no longer be updating for blu-ray.
I love the way you can convert DVD titles to AVI/MP4/WMV/MKV files, or edit the features on a title, keeping only what you want, while still preserving menus. I have not tried this yet, but the burns I have been getting (main movie only), not only look great, but only take about 14 minutes -from the original disk! That is almost as fast as burning from the hard drive. Nero on the other hand takes about 15 minutes for it's "deep analyzing for better quality mode" plus about 25-30 minutes or more for the actual burn, depending on the movie... I just did "The Incredible Hulk" with DVDFab while writing this, and it took 20:29 total, disk to disk (about 72% compression). Another thing I have noticed is that when doing consecutive burns with DVDFab, every one after the first one are done faster, although I have not documented by how much. I think that this is the software that I have been waiting for. Too bad I spent so much on Nero (plus I had to pay extra to update it to Nero Six Ultra Edition,{$19.99} AnD they made me pay extra for that "multichannel plug-in" [$9.99]) And lets not even talk about the cash I had to pay for AnyDvD as a companion for Nero, without which it would not even work, whereas DvdFab does Everything with no need for AnyDvD. P.S. While I was writing this I was burning a second copy of "The Incredible Hulk 2008", (still disk to disk), and it just now completed. Are you ready? 00:6:19! And I am watching it now, and it looks great, on a 45" screen, which surely shows everything...
