Hi Guys, I wish someone could help me with this. I currently have a Matshita 8587 DVD-ROM drive as well as a brand new NEC ND4550 DVD-RW drive. Every time I try to copy DVD's from DVD+R's, my DVD-ROM just won't read +R's (not even -R's actually) so that I always have to copy first to my HD and then to my DVD. My question is: could I just replace my DVD-ROM drive with the former Liteon DVD-RW 851S I had before? Would it cause compatibility problems or whathever if I connect 2 DVD-RW drives onto my pc? Thanks for your help.
It should be ok to have 2 dvd-rw drives in 1 pc. On that matshita dvd-rom,since it has problems with your new NEC backups: You may want to try a lens cleaning disc on it.It may be dying and the lens cleaning would be a last resort before swapping out. Dvd-rom only drives are usually more forgiving on backups, making them excellent readers.Something may be wrong with those backups. Maybe media quality/burn speed.Probably too many errors on the backup disc. Try a scanning test like:Nero speedtest or dvdinfopro. With that litey drive, you can use K-Probe. Are you trying re-rip backup copies on the fly? What burner was used on the original backup copies? Litey or NEC?
Thanks for the answer guys, but my problem is somewhere else actually. The problem is that my DVD-ROM could never read DVD+R's, so that everytime I want to copy a movie (on a +R) from a friend of mine, I have to use my burner to be able to read it and save on my HD first, and then copy from my HD to a new DVD+R. And I wish I could copy on the fly, therefore I was wondering if I could replace my DVD-ROM with my former burner (that reads the +R's) in ordrer to be able to copy directly from DVD to DVD. And, if I can, which one should I put on slave or master, and on which IDE channel? Thank you and sorry if I didn't make myself clear (English is not my language, I'm French speaking))
Yeah like i said before this will be ok : ) Whatever you DVD-ROM is set to now just set your DVDRW that you are putting in its place to the same....
Great, thank you, I'll try that than. I was just asking because when I installed the NEC, it was recommended I install it as master, but since my former Liteon was on slave, I installed it on slave too. So I wanted to be sure I didn't have to switch the jumpers before installing...
I recently replaced my DVD ROM drive with a BenQ 1640 & now use the old LG 4120 as the as the reader & had no problems, just make sure the new burner is hooked up the same as your old drive.
