hey i finally got a dvd burner last night(LiteOn 20x DVD Writer to be exact) and i bought a package of maxell DVD-R discs which say they support up to 16x speeds. i've read about 4 guides on here and looked up a few specific terms which i was a bit fuzzy on, and i'm pretty confident i know what i'm doing. now what i was trying to do was take a divx file and get it on the disc to play in my dvd player. here's what i did in my 3 attempts(3 discs down the drain =/): Attempt 1 - i used WinAVI Converter to convert the divx file into DVD files(it successfully created a folder which included the Audio_TS and Video_TS subdirectories). then i used Nero 6 express to burn said "DVD-Video Files." nero already had the audio and video ts folders set up so i just copied what was in my converted video_ts folder to the one in nero. the audio_ts folder was empty so i left it alone. then i burned the disc at 16x...and i didn't find out till later that it's not a good idea to use that high of a speed. this leads me to attempt #2... Attempt 2 - i did everything above except this time i burned the disc at 4x speed...still no luck Attempt 3 - this time i followed THIS GUIDE as closely as possible, substituting DVD Decrypter with ImgBurn since that was the closest working program i could find. i converted the files made with WinAVI Converter in attempt #1 into an ISO with Folder2ISO and then i followed all instructions used for ImgBurn. i even selected verify, hoping it would tell me if there were any problems after the disc was finished. then i burned the disc at 4x, it verified everything, and i got the burn successful message at the end. still wouldn't work in the dvd player =/ the weird thing about all of this is that ALL 3 dvds that i've just burned play PERFECTLY fine with my computer's dvd player, but when i stick it in my regular player it says "NO PLAY" in the status window and on screen a big message pops up saying something like "This type of disc cannot be played. Please insert a different disc." also, i have burned vcd's before which work great on my dvd player...i know they're totally different but i just don't see what could be wrong. i appreciate any help very much.
Just to be sure, your standalone player says it will accept DVD-R? Also you made sure that when the AVI files were converted, you specified NTSC (I assume you are in North America) and not PAL..
honestly i'm not sure how to tell if my standalone player accepts DVD-R discs(i lost the manual). however, on the front of it the label reads "Panasonic DVD/CD Player DVD-RV32" but i have no idea if that means anything. and i have read about the PAL and NTSC region codes but i can't find any options to set those in the conversion programs i've used(WinAVI Converter and Folder2ISO). i really hope there's a way to get this to work =/
It should be ok with DVD-R. Bring the AVI into this program. http://dl.afterdawn.com/vsoDivxToDVD_setup_v0.5.2b.exe Import the file(s) (AVI, MPEG, VOB) Output (standard DVD file format) to a folder on the HDD. Set 'Aspect' to 4:3 (if you have a regular tv) Set 'Standard' to NTSC (if you live in North America) Make sure you select NTSC if you live in North America and burn with ImgBurn or Nero.
i downloaded that program a little while ago, and i set the options up like you said..but then when i went to record it asked if i wanted to continue because the program was just a trial and a watermark would appear in the picture or something like that. do you know anything about that? is the watermark going to ruin the dvd?
This isn't a trial program, it's a freeware version of ConvertXtoDVD, without the extras.There is no watermark.
attar thank you so much. for some reason i was trying to download the shareware version of ConvertDivxtoDVD thinking that's what you were linking me too but after you told me it was a freeweare version i clicked your link and there it was lol. it took a while but it was worth it, got the movie working perfectly now. thanks again.
