I've been lurking for awhile now and I have a question for you guys. I would like to copy all 3 of my Matrix DVD's to 1 DVD+R. I was thinking the best way to do this may be to convert each of them to SVCD, then copy them to a DVD+R. Would this work? How can I create a menu to pick which movie I want to watch?

I've read the guides concerning VCDEasy and DVD2SVCD but they dont really cover what I want to do.

    Any suggestions?
    Thanke

    WOW!!!

All 3 Matrix movies on ONE DVD-R....

You don't care about the quality then?????

Yes, it can be done, pretty easily too..

But the quality would be degraded - can you live with that??

Let us know if you want to proceed, and we will help....

    Have Fun...

Yep, thats what I want to try. The quality of course will be degraded, but SVCD quality isn't THAT bad. People having been using it for a while. Each movie could take roughly 1.5GB.

What's the best approach to take.

    Thanks

    Ok,

SVCD is not a good idea, better quality than SVCD is avilable using this method....

1 - Download and install Shrink:
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm

2 - Download and install TMPGEnc DVD Author:
    http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/tda.html

    3 - run Shrink
    4 - click the Re-author button
    5 - browse to the DVD -> Main Movie -> Title 1 (double-click it)
6 - The left hand pane will show Title 1 highlighted
7 - click Analysis (takes some time, be patient)
    8 - click Backup
9 - Set Target Device should be changed to read "Hard Disk Folder"
10 - Browse to (create) a Folder to accept the results
    11 - Tick Create VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders
    12 - click OK
13 - Test result on hard drive using your DVD Player Application (PowerDVD, WinDVD etc)

You have ripped the first film

    14 - repeat steps 3 to 13 for films 2 and 3

Once you have done all 3 films and they test OK, we can proceed onto Authoring them....

    Have Fun....

Upon using Shrink, the lowest compression setting I can use is 31.6%, which is still to high. The movie comes in at 1.9GB that way. I wont be able to fit all 3 at that rate.

Is there a way to compress it more? I've even cut out the opening stuff and credits. I need to get it down to about 1.4-1.5GB.

    Hiya,

Don't worry, just compress each film as much as you can..(make sure you are re-authoring - only the main film)..

After final Authoring of the DVD (with a nice Menu so you can select which film to watch) we will compress the TOTAL result just enough to fit on a DVD.

Just get the three films done and tested.

the rest will be done tommorrow (me going to sleepy-time now).

    Have Fun...

OK. I got all 3 movies compressed as much as Shrink would allow on the first pass.

How do I get them all on 1 DVD with some sort of Menu now? This aught to be fun.

    Hiya,

Well then, you will need TMPGEnc DVD Author:
    http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/tda.html

Download and install that (30-day trial period)

Then go and read this guide (it does not do what you want, but it covers some & it will familiarise you with handling DVD Author).
    http://www.chrismccann.co.uk/tmpgenc_dvd_author.htm

Have a play with it (especially menu creation, as that is the bit you will have to do yourself, as I don't know your tastes, aesthetically).

When you have had a good play & are reasonably confident with the simple stuff, we can go on to author your 3-film project.

    Have Fun...

The TMPGEnc program is pretty slick. The problem I have is that I get no sound after compiling the 3 movies as one. The help file mentioned getting the AC3 plug-in. The problem is that it only works with the licensed version of the software. I'd really like to test the software out before buying it.

Is there any other way to get the sound to compile. Does this make sense or did I miss something when I compiled?

    Hiya,

Did you test the movies in your DVD Player Application BEFORE Authoring??

Test them there, if no audio then the Shrink process was at fault..

Yep, I used shrink (re-author) to get all 3 movies to my hard drive. The total file size was about 6.5GB. All the movies play great, sound and all.

I then used TMPGEnc DVD Author to combine all 3 movies into 1 Volume. This is where I lost all sound. The software did combine everything just as expected, but there was no sound. I could watch all 3 movies, just without sound. Shrink could then open the combined files but once again, there is no sound.

I went through the options on TMPGEnc DVD Author and the help files mentioned the Add-in for AC3 sound. I didn't need any special sound decoder before, what gives? Any ideas...

    Thanks

This is frustrating. I've got all 3 movies compressed down, and they all work great by themselves...[bold]read they have sound.[/bold]

But when I try to compile all 3 movies using TMPEnc or DVDlab, the sound goes away. The video is perfect, but no sound. I even have a nice menu setup to choose which movie to play.

Why is it, that when I put these movies together, I lose all sound?

AC3 plug-in will aide the audio to be converted along with video...

It will be why you have no sound !!!

Where do I get an AC3 plugin that I can use with the trial/demo software. I don't want to actually buy the software unless I know its going to work..
