Nokia 3310 with Vodafone PAYT sim. Phone died after getting wet. Given another 3310 but no way of knowing which network was on. First tried unlock code for Orange and got 'error'. Next tried T-Mobile One 2 One and got 'Sim restriction is off'. Excellent! I thought, but on reinserting Sim and selecting 6-2-4 Network selection - Manual - Vodafone, it just hangs on 'searching'. Could it be on some other network, even though it reported 'Sim restriction is off' ? Thanks for any help.
hmm i'm not sure but what i recommend is that u check the phone manual and see the GSM frequency that it operates on and that the network you want to use operates on that frequency as for the phone hanging on searching try selecting the automatic method to serch for network.. insert the simm from the network u want to use and go to network settings and select automatic......and it should lock on and register itself with the network. do this for the 2 simm cards that u have and then come back and tell me if u still havin problems by the way this is the unlocking forum not the nokia discussion forum but i still helped you skylinegt
OK, thanks skylinegt, I came in here as I wasn't sure if the phone had been unlocked or not. I'm fairly sure now though that it has been and that it was on Orange,as I have retried all the other network unlocks and they all come up with 'Sim not protected'. I only have the one PAYT SIMM - the one from my dead phone and it worked fine on the Vodafone network, I would have thought it should detect the Vodafone network now that the phone is unlocked but it won't. The replacement phone is exactly the same make/model as my broken one so I'm not sure the frequency has any bearing on the problem. The automatic search method just reports 'SIM card not ready' when you try to do anything, so that was why I tried forcing it to connect to Vodafone using the manual method. I very rarely use the phone, just for emergencies and the odd expected incoming call, so infrequently in fact that I keep a sticker on the back reminding me to make a test call inside the 3-month period before the SIMM gets expired through non use. I was due to make such a call in 2 weeks, so maybe the SIMM has nuked itself detecting that it is now in a different handset and has almost hit the 3-month period. If this thread is now more relevant to the discussion forum perhaps one of the admins can move it. Thanks again for your time.
hey, try this get a vodaphone simm one that branded with vodaphone logo or emblem or somethin..like that....preferably from a phone that u know works with vodaphone and try that simm if it works proceed to step 2 step 2: do the same with another simm card from another company example orange again make sure it's good....preferably from a phone that u know works with orange for both steps, set phone to automatic network selection and see if both simms are correctly detecting and registring itself on the network... if this happens for the both simm cards u borrow then the problem is now narrowed down to your phone and simm also please make sure which ever simm cards u use make sure that you phone supports that frequency that the company operates on... i used vodaphone and orange as a reference... for YOUR simms clean with a DRY CLEAN lint free cotton cloth or similar GENTLY WIPE the contacts side of the simm - gold side - and also GENTLY CLEAN the contacts inside the phone where the simm card touches then retry your simm card if u still get the same problem, but the borrowed simm card works just fine , the problem lies with your simm cards obtain new simm card from your desired network if u clean your simm cards and they work problem solved if u tried other borrowed simm card from other known phone that works..problem was your simm card if u tried borrowed simm card and it doesnt work it means that your phone may be locked hit me with some feed back would definitely like to hear from you if u get through skylinegt
Thanks for the suggestions skylinegt, I'm sorted now. Turned out to be the replacement phone I had been given was also dodgy. A friend turned up with 2 more 3310s and both these worked straight away after unlocking, so thankfully my PAYT SIMM and all its credit is back in use. Cheers for your help
