When backing a movie I prefer to back up just the movie without all the menus, bonus or extras. I like to keep the quality as high as possible. My question is? I edit the movie and just the movie without the bonus features or extras. I left the 5.1 and DTS and removed the sub titles and French etc. I'm using dvd shrink.I then burnt the movie with nero. When I played it on my digital receiver I only got 5.1. Now is this a problem with the burning software or did I need to leave the whole movie intacted with menus and extras in order to play DTS. I hope you can understand what I mean. Thanks...
If you retained them both, then both types would have been processed......therefore both types would have been burned...... A good way to check, locate the audio button/setting on your dvd player and you should find 2 types of audio there.....scroll through them....one will be 5.1 the other will be DTS....... Now the question is does your dvd player support the DTS, ie will it read the DTS signal and transmit it...........? (alot of older players were not capable of this) _X_X_X_X_X_[small]Beware of the Pixies - they move in over night and turn your life upside down [/small]
The DVD player I'm using is a new one. It does support DTS. Im using my digital receiver and it has DTS. When I play the original movie which has the option of DTS,I usually set that in the movie from the menue at the begining of the movie then my receiver goes to DTS and you know that because the front panal screen on the receiver shows that. I'm just wondering if I need to keep the menus from the original movie in order to select this feature (DTS).
Nope, the DTS is a different stream than any menus etc.... You do not need to retain the menus in order to retain the DTS... Are you talking about the audio setup menu on the dvd? There is no need to retain this, all you need to retain is the DTS stream.....and not the setup menu..... Therefore you will be left with 2 streams...5.1 and DTS, you will then have to select (with audio button on remote) which one you require whilst the movie is playing.....
[bold]baabaa[/bold] is absolutely right !!: ) I nearly always extract menu & extras , whilst retaining DTS / AC3 6CH audio streams. I use DVD2One to compress & extract unwanted doings ; )
Thanks I appreciate your help. Ill try again looking at the receiver but as far as Iknow the yamaha receiver I have doesn't have a botton which I can select. Usually when select DTS on the main menue of the movie the receiver automatically switches to DTS. I keep trying thanks for your help. ovi...
Well, to be [bold] exactly [/bold] sure (again), process the movie again using Dvd Shrink and just retain the DTS stream only, that way, when the movie commences all you will get is the DTS stream as audio so then your receiver will decode it ..... I am sure you will have a seperate button on your remote control for your dvd player marked as audio or similar to be able to scroll through the [bold] audio [/bold]...... You may also have to look into the audio settings in the dvd players setup menu to set up the correct audio output required.....usually spdif raw Let us know how you get on........ Herbsman....love the new signature.....Hmmm may be looking into them for Saturday nights...LOL... Have a good weekend all................
