I have a LiteOn 5005 and now have filled a +RW disc with woodturning shows from TV. I'm now ready to burn (finalize) to a DVD. It says to put in another disk.

My question is: could/should this one be another +RW or a +R because it is cheaper and I don't need to write to it again?

If I understand this right +R is for writing to once only and +RW is for writing and erasing. I see that +R and -R discs are much cheaper. I'm about ready to order discs and really am at a lost of which ones to buy. We are planning on also buying the LiteOn 5045 this week. Plus I have a +R/RW DVR for my computer.

Sorry this one is so long. I have been trying to figure this out all day.

Use the +R...........these are for recording only once but are much cheaper. Use only the RW's if you are going to watch and then record over.

+R ist is then! Thanks so much! That helped a lot. I'll order them today!

I read the manual last night and found the description of all the -R/RW and +R/RW and it helped a little until I read the part about -RW. It says you can record 2 ways, 1. VR=Video Recording Mode or 2. Video Mode

Now just when I was liking +RW the -RW offers 2 ways to record!

I should probably give up thinking about this right about now, but now my curisosity has taken hold of me. Dare I ask, whats the difference between them?

Nothing really between the + or _ other than the formats used to record. Their going through the same pains as the VHS vs Beta max formats during the VCR days. Most players today can read both + and -.

Freida, I have the LVW5005 and ran into the same situation as you. The -/+RW do not finalize. They are meant only for using over and over. The -/+R can be finalized and taken to any other DVD player and watched just fine. I tried watching the -/+RW on my regular Sony DVD player in my living room and it would not work. So I brought it back to the LVW5005 in the bedroom and it plays just fine.

    Freida,

I did fail to mention my HELLO - freeze problem I am having with my LVW-5005 right now. I am still waiting to hear back from the Techs. at LiteOn for what to do. Please see my story under the "LiteOn LVW-5005 stuck on HELLO" thread.
