6 minutes over on 4.7gb disc

I did read the help section but it is dated 2002! I'm wondering if there is an easy way to cut a bit out of an avi/mpeg so you can fit it on a 4.7gb disc. Some movies i'm trying to burn say im over by 1 minute! It's not a Hollywood movie so it doesn't matter if i axe a bit to fit it on there. I'm on Vista HP.
