Hello, I would be so grateful if anyone has any ideas for me. My 60Gb video iPod crashes constantly. It doesn't matter what I'm playing: videos, music, podcasts. It doesn't seem to matter either where they've come from--purchased, imported, free downloads, etc. It just randomly stops during playback, then goes to the black screen with the apple logo and resets. I am at my wit's end. I have tried: resetting restoring factory settings (numerous times) restoring factory settings on another computer and reloading the ipod from that computer making slight changes to the options, i.e. disabling disk use. It is not clicking, which i hear is the click of death... It is 1.5 years old, but I use it rarely and only gently. It hasn't dropped or anythign like that. I am running: OS10.4.8 on an iMac, iTunes v. 7.1.1, iPod v. 1.2.1 second computer: Mac PowerBook, also running 10.4.8 Many many thanks in advance!
Have you used Disk Utility to check/repair the hard drive? I have no idea how to do it, it's a Mac thing. But from what I've heard, it can help.
What converter did you use for the videos? I have one that crashes my ipod when I watched them. It was called Jodix or somthing...
Hi everyone. Thanks for your responses. I will take it to the Apple store, although i've been told by a friend who works at a different apple store that they won't do anything past 1 year. I will try disk repair, although I'm a bit dubious b/c i have tried restoring the iPod on 2 different computers, so if it was a hard drive problem on the desktop machine i would think that would eliminate it. I haven't used a converter on my videos; they are all purchased from iTunes. But also, it happens when playing music too. Any other thoughts???
Well, since you've restored on two different computers and the same result occurs, it seems it may be a problem with something internally in the iPod. My suggestion is to go to the Apple store to diagnose the problem.
Never mind, I just learned how to do it from this site: http://www.methodshop.com/gadgets/ipodsupport/erase/index.shtml now I'll see if that works. i'll report back...
Okay, I ran the disk repair and then restored the iPod. The bad news is, it's still crashing. Does this mean it's toast? Or should I not give up yet? Has anyone paid for those iPod diagnostic/repair kits I see advertised? Does anyone know if they are worth it? thanks.
it varies. sometimes it will go for 1/2 an hour; sometimes only for about 3 songs. nothing consistent.
