Hi everyone, havent been on here for a while and was wondering if i could get your opinions on a 64 Bit upgrade.

Before we start, yes i am aware of the two different bit versions of Vista.

Currently i am running an MSI P965 Neo:

    On which i am running:
    LGA775 3.8Ghz P4 (O-Clocked to 4.2Ghz)
    2Gb RAM
    512Mb HDMI 3D Card
    500Gb HDD(Sata)
    360Gb HDD(Pata)
    32Bit XP Professional

I have just bought a new Coreā„¢2 Duo Processor E8400:

    (checked mobo specs of course)

My mobo supports upto 8Gb RAM and i am about to purchase Vista Ultimate so i can utilise as much of the RAM supported as i can.

I am also going to overclock the CPU slightly, but am only air cooling.

    My questions:

Ive never O-clocked a Dual core before and am wondering if its still as safe as a single core in terms of switching off before frying :S
Is there anything i should know further about the 64bit system before o-clocking?

I will be buying brand new amounts of RAM, i realise 4Gb should be sufficient for the average user but im an extremist who likes to brag, as well as have the backup to prove hahaha. So am i able to push more than 4Gb out of Vista64x? Hoping for atleast 6Gb???

As far as using an operating system capable of using upto 8Gb RAM, eg server 2003 or more etc, will i still be able use my normal programs? (eg. Abelton Studio, Adobe CS3/4, Games etc)

Any heads up before i start would be excellent.

    Thanks heaps guys, Haywood.

DO NOT BUY VISTA!!! (sorry to yell, but it had to be yelled) Wait for windows7, or get a technet plus subscription now. Vista64 was terrible (WIN7 RC1 is far better).

Overclocking a dual core or quad core is almost the same as overclocking a single core...but you might need a new stress test program to make sure all cores are fully loaded.

Adobe phohoshop CS4 includes a 64bit version (only installs on 64bit systems) that can chew up over 4GB of ram easily if you work with a lot of photos at once. 6GB is a good amount of ram, but 8GB is only a few $ more, so it might be worth it for bragging rights.

Hahaha, dude i was thinking about that just the other day, i downloaded the free trial for Win7 and i was kinda impressed as well as a bit dissapointed. I like the new start bar and how it is incorporated but its pretty much Vista (Apart from the better performance)

But i think your right, it would probably be best.
    Thanks for the input dude,

    Cheers,
