I am new to the whole DVD backup thing.Firstly will someone tell me what is the difference between a DVD-R and DVD+R burner? I have to get an external DVD burner because i have a laptop.I want one which will backup PS2 games as well as DVDs.Price isnt really an issue as long as it isnt too expensive like 400+.And i would like a website in ireland or the UK because i live in ireland and dont want to wait ages for it to come from america. And i dont think my USB ports are high speed so is there some sort of adapter i can get or can i still use the burner in non high speed USB ports. Any replys would br appreciated.
Hey buddy, Basically they're two different formats that give you similar results. Here's a wonderful link that explains it much better than I can here (as well as a ton of other good info). http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html Plextor, Pioneer and Lite-On all make external drives that are well worth looking into. These are the only three makes I'd personally consider if I was buying. To verify whether you have any USB 2.0 ports you can go into Device Manager and expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers". Any USB 2.0 controllers will be listed as "enhanced". If you don't have USB 2.0 support you can purchase a USB 2.0 PCMCIA card for your laptop. Trying to use a DVD burner on a USB 1.1 controller is going to be a very, very slow process that will most likely net you quite a few coasters from the drive not getting the data it needs fast enough.
