I had a working softmoded original XboX with a 250 GB HD but I did something wrong and now is not working. What I have done is that I tried to install the original MS dashboard from Slayer's autoinstaller but I did something wrong and now the XboX is giving me error 21. I think that if I delete the original MS dashboard and restore the hacked xboxdash.xbe it will work again but I'm not sure how to do it. I tought to myself maybe if I unlock the HD and access it from Windows I'll be able to delete and restore the required files. I did some research and found out that the drive needs to be unlocked with xboxhdm in order to be accessed by Windows and that Hdd_Driver is needed to see and modify the files. I had a copy of my eeprom in my hard disk but I deleted accidentaly. I asked to myself, where can I find a copy of my eeprom? Then it crossed my mind, I have the original HD already unlocked and it has a backup of my eeprom so I hooked it up and booted my PC. It was recognized succesfully by Device Manager but when I tried to acces the HD with Hdd_Driver I couldn't access the eeprom.bin. I did some research again and found out that I need to make an image of my HD in order to access eeprom.bin so I downloaded it but when I tried to run it it gave me a MFC42D.DLL was not found error. I searched the net for the correct dll's but was unable to find them.

Basically what I think that I need to do is access one HD in order to get the eeprom.bin and make the required iso so I can unlock the other HD and be able to access it from Windows and delete/restore the required files to get it to work again but the required software is not working correctly for some reason. Can somebody tell me how to make it work correctly?

I need somebody to confirm that what I'm trying to do is the right thing. If somebody know a better way to do this please tell me as soon as you can.

    Please help a newbie!!!

You say the original xbox hdd is unlocked,` you could pop that back into the xbox and ftp to it from the pc and grab the eeprom.bin file that way ?

p.s you can't access the xbox hard drive on a pc, it's filesystem is called fat-x i think, it's not compatible with fat32 or ntfs

Sorry I said Hdd_Driver but I meant FatXplorer. Hdd_Driver is supposed to make an image of your drive not read FatX filesystem.

Thanks creaky for your fast reply. The original XboX HDD being unlocked is precisely the problem since a softmodded XboX won't boot with an unlocked HD installed. The XboX must be into the Evox dashboard in order to be able to ftp from the PC and that's not posible because it won't boot. You must have an modchip installed to be able to boot into EvoX dashboard with an unlocked HD wich I don't have installed right now. As for accessing the XboX HD on a PC, it is posible if it is unlocked using FatXplorer wich is able to read Fat-X filesystem. The problem is that I have restricted access because I don't have an image of my drive. I have access to a few files but not the eeprom.bin. Hdd_Driver is supposed to be able to make an image of yor drive but I'm unable to run it because of the missing dll. That's why I'm asking if somebody knows where I can get the right dll or another way to acces my hard drives from the PC. Also I would like to know if there's a way to lock the drive without the eeprom.bin file.

Sorry for the misleading information (read below).

Sorry for my blonde moments there, of course you can't boot the xbox if that old drive is unlocked. And i hadn't used FATXplorer so didn't realise you could access a fat-x drive on a pc (i'm just very careful to keep copies of eeproms hence why i haven't needed to use other utilities).

You can get FATXplorer from the first post here though -

I made some progress. I unlocked my 250 GB HD using the hotswap method and finally was able to have access to it using Xplorer360. However I was wrong about the delete/restore files thing. I deleted the files I tought were causing the problem but I'm still getting error 21. I have a few files and folders that I'm not sure that are suppossed to be there. Can somebody tell me wich files and folders are suppossed to be in every partition?

I solved the problem. I accessed my 250 GB HD from Windows using Xplorer360 and deleted everything from the C partition. Then I copied all the files found in the C partition of my retail HD, wich also had the softmod, to the 250 GB hard drive's C partition and now is working as before. Everything is there, the games, the movies, the saves, the photos... I hope that this thread is of any help to somebody else.
