a mild ponder in the dark

A couple of questions for anybody who cares to answer them.

My neighbor wanted me to take his PBS Baseball series and backit up for him, no problem. The catch is he just wants the main video AND he wants 2 on one disk.

I shrunk both dvds using DVD Shrink as far as it could go. Combined them and shrunk again.

The questions are. The main page is gone. What is a good free program that I can use to create a new page showing the chapters (2x)?
When I checked the dvd. The 2nd dvd scene numbers started over again. What program can I change the scene number with? (you needn't explain it unless it is totally obscure)

When you must compress video so much is it better to max crunch it the first pass or the 2nd? (I'd imagine having the shrink % as even as possible would be optimum) Thoughts?

Lastly, I've had NO success making vcds for my Sony stand alone player. For me it is a dead issue, but I have some videos that I used SubRip on that are begging to be purged from my drive. I'd just like to burn a dvd including the subrip file. Any body have a link to a good explanation of it?

    Thanks,
    Oopsla

It's just so much less fuss to put them on two discs believe me.

I totally agree. I told him that. But on the otherhand being a newbie and all it is a good way to learn the layout of a DVD.

Two discs to one. Ok rip to two seperate folders each disc. Download and Open TMPGEnc DVD Author or Adobe Encore. In the DVD Author program add the two titles and create menus. Create and output then. Open a compression tool like DVD SHrink or DVD2ONe. Compress to 4440MB or less and burn to disc inside a VIDEO_TS folder.
