I have just bought a new DVD Writer. (NEC-2500) I have some questions that I require some help with. 1) Since I have installed the new drive, occasionally when I place a disk in any of my DVD drives (I have 1 DVD reader & The NEC), whether it be a DVD or a CD the system just hangs and needs to be reset. This does not happen all the time, and since I disabled the windows burning agent and switch off the part where Nero (Nero 6) tries to load up automatically when I put a disk in it happens less, but this did not entirely fix the problem. If there is a disk one of the drives when the computer reboots it will read from that disk ok, it only seems to happen when I insert a new Disk. 2) I was trying to back up some of my DVD collection (One of the reasons I bought the drive was a recent incident with one of my younger cousins, whereby he snapped one in half and repeatedly stabbed another with a fork – they no longer work. Surprise, surprise). I bought some cheap DVD’s, which I am assured work with my drive, and indeed when I did a test run backing up some data onto one of them it worked fine, but when I tried to back up videos using DVDshrink to get it on DVD-5 it would stop when it got to the point where it was supposed to start burning to the disk. I tried going in to Nero and burning the encoded files using the “Create DVD video” option but that also failed almost immediately. Any help and advice you can give would be greatly appreciated. The disk is an NEC25000, I am using Windows XP and Nero 6. Many Thanks Riv
not had this problem yet but i have read on other threads that cheap blank media work fine for data and even audio burning but can fail when it comes to burning video. what media are you using?.......i'd also suggest you invest in some r/w discs untill you get this problem solved so at least you aint burning an increasing collection of coasters. welcome to after ad.....come back and let us know how you get on.........good luck. viper
not really come accross that brand.......i can only pass on what has been said to me.......see if you can get some ritek g04 (i've never had one fail) and see how you get on
Thanks for your help so far Viper. The files are now on my HD. If I chose the Data Disk option and create the video and audio folders manually, rather than the Video DVD option, will I still be able to play the videos in a normal DVD player or does the video DVD option do something special? Also, is it worth trying another burning software, and if so what one. I also looked at the Nero site to see if there was a patch/update for the software. There did seem to be something, but when I downloaded the files the wizard said “Welcome to the update wizard for Nero 6 Demo”. I am pretty sure I am not using a Demo, what files do I need to update with?
think you problems are maybe either 1) too advanced for me.......or 2) you are a little confused (as i was for a long time) by so many different threads........so lets start again....... you have nero right?????? so you have burning software.......good. you have DVD shrink that will analyse most original dvd's if you try to run a disc thru shrink that it wont handle then download DVD Decrypter (and check out the guide). this will when set up in file mode mode create an image on your hd that shrink will definatley handle. either way at this point you have analysed either the original disc or the image file using shrink.......you can now (using re-author) cut any parts of the original you dont want and (using the back up option) shrink will use nero to burn your end product. i've only hit on the basics there but you can find step by step intructions via the "guides tab at the top of the page. come back and let us know how you are doing viper
Perhaps I was a little confusing… I have learned a little since I first posted this so I will try and give a few more details. I am still pretty much a noob though so please try to have patience. I have… An NEC2500 DVD Writer, Nero 6 (as it comes off the CD - unpatched), DVDshrink & DVD decrypter. I am Running on Windows XP So far I have used Decrypter to get the files onto my HD and break any protection. I used DVD shrink to cut out all the credits, subtitles, foreign languages and most of the special features until I has it small enough to fit on a DVD-5. At that point in the walkthroughs I had found, it said that DVDshrink would start to burn the disk automatically if I had Nero 6 (which I did) but it failed. I tried just going through Neros Create a Video DVD option to burn the files (A selection of .iso .vob & .bup’s) as they were already on my HD but that failed also. I have found many people complaining about nero failing towards the end of the disk but never at the very beginning. I just get an error box saying “Unknown Burn Phase” and it spits the disk back out. I was also wondering if it might be worth trying some software, other than Nero to burn the DVDs with. (Is Nero the problem) Does Nero just need an update/patch? And if so what should I be looking for, as the ones on the site gave me reason to pause. Is it worth trying to burn it under “Create Data Disk” rather than “Create Video DVD”? Or will it not play on Stand Alone (as in the kind you attach to your TV) Players if I do this?
