I mean, i never encoded in AAC but rumors around tell it's better...

is there any good encoder for AAC? maybe the LAME group has one ?

Go to http://www.hydrogenaudio.org, "Listening Tests" sub-forum. In the last AAC listening test (128kbps bitrate) Quicktime/Itunes was best (using CBR), Nero AAC encoder 2nd. In the multi-format test both outperformed mp3, but some other codecs (e.g. musepack/mpc) were equally good. IIRC there'll be a new test soon.
