I received an OEM DVD -+ RW drive and don't know what kind of software is compatable. I even called the manufacturer and they were about as much help as a blow to the head with a bowling ball. i was thinking of buying Nero, but i don't want to spend the money on software that doesn't work. anyone have any way i can find out what would be the best for making copies of the movies i have, since i would like to leave some for my family since i am moving but i dont wnat to leave my collection at my old house. Any help would be appreciated. If an answer to there questions was already posted, please let me know so that another doesn't have to write the answer again, thanks. P.S. If Nero is what i am looking for, do i still need to get DVD Shrink, or something like that, or will Nero be all that I need, thanks
Nero should recognize your OEM drive and be compatible with it. I personally don't know of any that it doesn't. But if you want to try before you buy download the trial version of Nero and give it a spin; use this website: http://ww2.nero.com/enu/index.html (As a suggestion Package 1 and Package2 are about all you need to get started. Do not download INCD package as it often cause conflicts) I would suggest you go to the AfterDawn software section and download DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter. They are free and both excellent programs; also user guides can be easily found on this forum. Nero does have a recode program but it will not decrypt. You can get DVD43 a free program that will decrypt in the background while running Nero Recode or you can buy ANYDVD (it also has a try before you buy trial period). I believe you can find all of these in the Afterdawn software download section.. You will find that there are numerous combinations of software for ripping and burning. Everybody has their own preferences and you will too as you experiment more. DVD Shrink (to decrypt and compress) and Nero to burn is what I use most all the time and I use DVD Decrypter for the newer encrypted movies. Take some time to browse thru the many forums here; you will find they are extremely helpful and will answer many of your questions. However if you have problems or can't find answers, feel free to ask; there are some real smart people here (present company excluded).
i think you summed it up quite nicely LABOY, no need to put urself down like that~ i've read some of your other posts and you are one of those "smart people" here in my book~ nicely done, keep up the good work~
Aw shucks, kivory666, you make me blush! (hehehe) Seriously, coming from you I take that as a great compliment; after all, I don't have a fan club like you..Maybe one day in my dreams.. You keep up the good work!!!
right back at cha~ thank YOU for your kind words, i just wanted to comment on your well thought out advice and to give you a "pat on the back," while yes i do have my own fan club, i could not have answered the many questions you have by myself. nicely done, just wanted to show appreciation where it is well deserved, in your case, right here~
Ok, i am haveing a problem finding a good version of Nero. All i keep finding are fu@ked up versions that have viruses. Anyone know where i van get a fairly recent edition at a descent price, since i am not in the position to spend 85.00 on the latest version of Nero. By the way, if anyone know's anything about the NEC DVD-+RW v.ND 3520A let me know, i bought this as OEM and am finding it hard to get a software that supports this new drive
Nero is an excellent tool and well worth the money in the long run. I presume you can find OEM versions or any NERO version on EBAY. I have heard somewhere you can download the trial version repeatedly but I can't recommend that. As far as the NEC 3520 is concerned, I, too, have the OEM model and Nero supports it fine. I also have an very old version of Record Now Max V4.5, no longer being made, and it supports the NEC 3520.
Hey LABOY, do you think I should purchase another one, since i am leaving this drive to my family and am moving out? http://adz.afterdawn.net/adclick.ph...?cart=1&productid=300012215&affiliateid=72878 Video Vault -- copy your DVDs and movies to DVDR, PDA or phone with ease! I was thinking of building my own computer but i haven't seen any price difference between buying a dell and making my own. Am i lookin at the wrong place? As far as I have seen "newegg.com" has a place where i can purchase items and build a computer on the internet. Does anyong else know of a place where i cna purchase parts and essentially buiild my own computer? How complitcated is Nero anyway? I just received a dvd from Europe that has my cousins wedding on it but i cant run it on my dvd player. What can I buy to fix that problem, or is ther ea program that I can use with the NEC that would help me view the disk and it's contents?
As far as building your own computers, I will leave that to those who have done so, since I have not. Newegg.com is a very reputable business and has some high commendations from many users on this forum. So you could start there. As far as Nero, it is very simple as far as what I use it far which is mainly burning DVDs. DVD Shrink and Nero work hand in hand so after Shrinks decodes and shrinks it automatically passes files off to Nero to burn. (Read guides in forum on Shrink and Nero). Also note you can burn with DVD Decrypter. DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter can be used hand in hand also. There are guides on that too. The good thing about that combination is that Decrypter and Shrink are both FREE. As far as not playing the DVD sent from Europe is probably because it is in a different Region code than the US (which is Region 1). I'm going to be out of pocket for two weeks, maybe others will jump in to help answer some of your questions... Good luck, and happy burning....
