about quality with compression

    hi i am new to this forum and can any body plz tell me which compression should i use to compress mpg-1 format files to divx or
    .mov files and which software should i use for that

    You can convert VCD(mpeg-1) to divx using virtualdub. You just have to install the divx codec.

    thanks for sending the reply but the thing matters the file size should shrink but the problem is the size increases by double plz help i tired to use indeo, divx with fast motion ,,but all in vain
    can u provide the full steps

    Well the video bitrate for VCD is 1150 and 224 for the audio. As long as you use a lower combined bitrate, you will get a smaller output.

    I wouldn't suggest using DivX 3 unless you use NanDub or do it via ffdshow.

    the quality off a vcd already suck, from the constant bitrate, so maybe a deblocking filter ?
