sup ppl i wont get into to much back story , but im tasked to fix this acer aspire pos3680,which blue screens on boot error 7e, some info vista machine, Intel mobile m, 512 ram 80g hdd , as google is ur friend and the first place i looked and a quick query brings up a bad intel driver. i teaked that and a full hdd , nope 13gb free, i drop in the multi disc, boot from disc it boots fine, run chkdsk still no good.

thats pretty much where i am . i did run some out of date AV nothing current. planning on popping the hdd into my desktop for more up to date and faster scans,as it to slow to run av on.

Well so without further ado , i put my problem on the mercy of the forums, any and all comments are welcome, so that the acer may live >;)

We need just a bit more information. Has the system operated properly before now? If yes, was anything changed just before the errors started: hardware or software? Is Vista a recent addition or has it worked properly under Vista before the errors began?

Are you in a position where you can do a clean re-install from scratch of Vista? Have you tried resetting the CMOS back to default BIOS settings? Have you tried updating the BIOS to its most recent level?

Lots of questions. Lots of things to try. Lots of notes to take.

i guess ill take them one a the time , to your first question yes its operated properly (for like forever man) , i personally think it ate a bad update, other than that possibility nothing has been changed.

Its a factory Vista Machine hasnt been changed or altered

As for a clean install , i rather not throw the baby out with the bath water. Trying to exhaust all possibilities before i so called cut and run beside i would putting xp sp3 when the time comes

As for clearing and updating the bios , clearing might be possible through the gui, but i wont risk flashing the bios. I can run bart pe or any disc basic os fine. thats why i think its a chipset driver error.

anyway tell me about it , unfortunately i think the writing is on the wall , but any help is still most welcome >;)

Forgive me if I repeat some obvious things, but have you tried a System Restore to a time before the errors started happening?

Flashing the most recent BIOS downloaded from the Acer web site shouldn't be a nail-biting proposition. I flash all of mine whenever an update is released.

The occasional bad update is an unfortunate fact of life. The update itself can be fine, but a glitch in the download process or something unexpected during the update process can wreak havoc. I had a bad update that I fought for four months before I finally had to back-up all my data and re-install.

Good luck. I am sure others here on the forum will also stop by with their ideas.
