Hi everyone, a belated merry christmas and a happy new year to all.
Ok..I have an Acer Aspire 6530 laptop and up until recently the dvd/cd combo Slimtype DVD A DS8A2S ATA Device worked just fine, now when I try to burn anything to dvd it gives me a power connection error and kicks out the dvd disc. Although it burns cd's normaly without a hitch. Is there any firmware to correct this or would it be more productive to purchase a new dvd/cd drive.

    Please help, its so frustrating.

    Thank you in advance.

Sure it's not a 'power calibration error'.

new drive required.. these slimlines are VERY light duty.. 5 or 6 dodgy memosux disks can see them off.. they are designed for backing up the odd disk worth of data.. NOT for burning 200 dvd movies.

Lol..sorry I dont burn THAT many dvds, I use it with the Woundershare Slideshow for family dvds... At no point did it say 'POWER CALIBRATION ERROR" so I uninstalled the cd/dvd driver and reinstalled it, to no avail. It did however say that "The SmartSound dll has stopped working close the programe" I managed to reinstall that and still the same thing and message. As for discs I use Philips DVD-R and Philips CD-R. My wife has the exact same unit and we bought them at the same time at the same store. We both run Windows 7 ultimate on the units and the main pc...it,s just this one.

Is it possible to save the output from your software to a folder on the HDD and use Imgburn to burn the disk.

One step ahead of you there...tried that and still it happens, so used the laptop in safe mode and went through each and every programe till I found the problem. So instead of messing about with it I formatted the hard drive after purging the whole system and started from scratch. Thats after I saved all my work and important software and had to do the long ardious task of reinstalling everything. I found that it was Nero 7 Ultimate which was the culprit, so now using Roxio 2010 suite...much better and more stable.

Thanks to those who tried to help and advise. Have a great day.
