ok this may sound stupid but i have acne and was wondering if the was a place you could go to get it removed once and for all. I googled laser acne and nothing really came up but this thing called [bold]Zeno[/bold] got my attention but Its $250! Thats way more than I'm willing to spend. Is there anything like that for a lot less.

    The zenosite is http://www.myzeno.com/

just get some neutrogena stuff that you put on at bedtime and stays on over night. if you use it everyday is goes a very good job of getting rid of zits, and keeping them gone.

Sorry for a long post, but I put in lots of info. Here is a summary:

    Use Gentle Cleansers
    Use Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5%
    Moisturize your skin
    Change your diet
Low FAT/Light = Death knocking at your Door!!!
    Reduce/Eliminate Alcohol
    Excercise
    Sleep

If you are thinking, "how can all this help my Acne?", it will help by making your body healthier. A healthy body is more resistant to all negative ailmants including Acne. Also, a change in diet may alone be enough to clear or reduce your Acne. No one knows how you get Acne, but it is some type of malfunction in your follicle and sebaceous gland, which means something in your body is not working correctly...

I am not familiar with Proactive, but based on you developing a tolerence, it would have to be some type of antibiotic...

You can try Benzoyl peroxide 2.5%. You cannot build a tolerence to this.

However, in order for this to work, you have to do it as part of a regimen.

Make sure you buy some gentle cleansers first. You will wash your face with those and pat dry. This is to prepare your skin. You do not want to put any type of pressure on a pimple because that can spread the bacteria or aggrivate it.

For a week or so, use approx 1 inch worth of Benzoyl peroxide once a day. After this period you can begin to gradually increase the amount you use and the number of times applied.

Also, use moisturizers. Do not get those cheap nasty scented ones. Also, I would not recommend stuff marketed towards younger women... Maybe something like Neutrogena or Nivea would be best. There should be a noticable difference within 3 weeks.

    Now, begins the long part...

Next, you will have to make a slight change in your diet. I know that nobody really knows the cause of acne, but diet affects every aspect of your life. Eat foods are are more natural. Stay away from soda, fried foods, saturated fats, etc... If you use Margarine, stop!!! Use butter instead. I don't care what the nutrition contents say, butter is more healthy than Margarine, but limit it's intake. Also, limit your intake of meats. Fish like Salmon, Herring, Sardines are OK.

Replace Corn/vegetable oil with Extra Virgin Olive oil. While it is hard to cook with EVOO, it is possible as long as you use low heat. As for salads, it is the best!!! You can use a salad spinner to drain excess oil. You will use approximately 75% less, but still maintain all of the flavor. I recommend Spanish or Greek olive oil (and remember Extra Virgin). Italian is overpriced and not as good. Spanish is reasonably priced (even with the shortage) and cooks well. Greek is the best. Make sure it is Kalamata Olives!! While it may seem expensive (approx $6 to $10 per liter), it is worth it.

Eat more raw vegetables and fruits. This will boost your strength and increase your metabolism. Also, it will make a stronger immune system and balance off your body. If you like jams/jellies/preserves, do not buy American... While they taste good, they always add High Fructose Corn syrup. This is POISON!!! Consider something like St Dalfour. It is all natural and has no sugar added. Just fruit and grape juice. Fruit is a great substitute for desserts like cake, cookies, etc... Limit that type of dessert to once a weak.

Limit you fast food intake. Also limit the intake of processed or all canned/prepared foods. Read the ingredients of prepared meat loaf and you'll see why... This reduces your intake of chemicals and salt. Also, avoid all fake juices. Usually they add nasty preservatives that interact with other chemicals from prepared foods and such and create very harmful poisons!!! Drink 100% Orange juice, 100% cranberry cocktails, Dole Blends, Pomegranate Juice, etc... Those are very good!!!

Eat lots of Kiwis!!!! Kiwis contain high amounts of Vitamin C and this can increase skin health!!!

If you see food that is low fat or light, BEWARE!!! If you eat ice cream, yogurt and such, always buy HIGH FAT with REAL SUGAR!!!! Those are not everyday foods and are meant to be a treat although even high fat yogurt has health benefits. Low fat yogurt is a marketing gimmick. All mainstream yogurt is low fat. Light yogurt is yogurt with sugar substitutes. I don't care what research suggests, always eat real sugar rather than substitues.

When I buy yogurt, I always buy Whole Milk yogurt and the ones that with the most fat. Also, the ingredients for yogurt are not complicated. Yogurt culture, milk, and fruit/honey. Actually, I almost always buy plain yogurt that is Ultra High in Fat. Those have more than enough flavor and do not require any additional flavors. If there is anything else, don't buy it. Fat is a lot healthier than artificial sweateners, preservatives, additives, etc...

For something like Ice cream, either make your own or buy Breyers Vanilla, Chocolate, or Strawberry. Do not get the "premium" ice creams like Godiva, Haagan Daz, etc... Those are french style and use eggs. While they are creamier, they can make you feel ill. Also, light ice cream is crap as well. Ice cream is another simple beast. Cream, Milk, & sugar is the base. Make sure it has only this and a natural flavor like Vanilla, Strawberry, Cherries, Cocoa, etc... Make sure the flavors are natural as well. No corn syrups and such...

For foods, stay away from light foods with extra ingredients. If they replace butter with 100 chemicals, you are better off with the butter. Natural is always better than artificial... So always read the ingredients.

CUT BACK ON ALCOHOL!!!! Alcohol is a toxin. That buzz, light headedness, dizziness, loss of concentration, etc... are all side effects of you intaking the toxin. It completely screws everything in your body. I would recommend that you limit yourself to 1 drink per week if that... By one drink, I don;t mean a big Gulp sized cup of Whiskey!! I mean, 37.5ml Hard, 187ml wine/Champagne, 500ml Beer. Also, Corona, Miller, Heineken, Amstal, Bud Light, etc... are not beer. Do not drink those at all. If you have to drink a beer, get a beer from Bavaria (southern Germany). These are highest quality, all natural and enjoyable. Only drink with or after a meal.

Eat lots of fruit/vegetable high in Vitamin's A, C, D, & E!! These all benefit your skin!! However, remember, too much of a good thing is still too much. Make sure everything you do is in moderation. For Vitamin D, sun exposure is enough to get this one. Vitamins A & C can be apllied topically for healthier skin. Remember again MODERATION!!! And Vitamin E will help heal skin damage cause from free radicals (polution and such).

Excercising will also greatly improve on your skins health. Also, it may have an affect on acne just from sweating. When you excercise, you increase your bodies ability to regenerate and heal. Also, you body will become more efficient and absorb more nutrients. This will make your skin healthier indirectly. take at least 30 minutes a day and excercise. You can jog, do aerobics, yoga, tai chi, light weight training etc....

Last, but not least...SLEEP!!! Sleeping is one of the most important things for your body. It affects your health as much as diet!!! Do not think that 8 hours is the magic number. This is made up!! While 8 hours is enough to get you through the day, I suspect the actual requirement for sleep is around 10 hours per day. This does not mean sleep from 12AM till 10AM though... The most important sleep is between 10PM and 2AM. I would recommend sleeping at 9PM and waking up at 7AM. So what, you'll miss a couple of shows on TV, but this is your health!!! Of course you can occasionally do a late night out, but do not do this often.

Also, sleep loss is CUMULATIVE!!! I don't care if some study says it is not, it is and anyways, better safe than sorry!!! If you are young, you may not notice anything, but your body goes through some changes when you hit 25 or so. If you have sleep loss, you will begin to feel it then and it will also show. You will age faster, live less, be weaker, etc... Sleep is meant for your body to recover after the day is over. Technically, you should also take a nap durng the day (around 3PM or so), but that may not be convenient.

Also, keep in mind that I am not a doctor or anything like that. You should make sure that you check with your doctor before any type of change in diet or applying anything on your skin.

One more note...any type of dramatic change to your body, like all of a sudden going healthy from eating nothing but deep fired, can shock your system in a bad way. Make the change within a period of a week or so.

thanks very much for taking the time to add all this info mate. although some of it is a tad contraversial, i guess you just have to go with your gut than certain studies which are only based on a small number of people anyway.

No Problem!! Glad I could be of help.

Yeah, some of what I said may be controversial, but you cannot always listen to what studies suggest. Not all results are made public. Also, since no study has found what the cause of acne is, there is no cure, only something to take away the symptoms (the pimples you see on your skin).

You can only find a cure for something if you know the cause and understand it well. Otherwise, you are only taking away the symtpoms and leaving whatever is causing the problems in the first place.
