Okay, so I downloaded Adaptec ASPI. I'm running WinXP Home on an Athlon 2400. (already read the "Installing A Working ASPI Layer" and can't find an answer). Which version of XP do I say I have when installing, 32-bit or 64-bit? And is there anything else I need to know about installing ASPI? Thanks for helping =)
32-bit ....unless it a workstation/server...I think u don't need the to install ASPI Layer in XP.It all ready comes with the lastest.
Yeah, I thought it would have too - but i tried running ADVDInfo and it says 'Can't load ASPI32.dll....Make sure ASPI for Win 32 is Installed" hmm...any suggestions? thanks for replying, too =)
I would reccomend you go with ASPI 4.60 (as opposed to ASPI 4.7x) because it offers much more all around compatibility. And yes, odds are you will need the 32 bit version (I would imagine if you needed 64 bit, you would have already known it hehe) ASPI: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/33849
sweet, thanks for the input. i went with advice on the 'software' section. Under Force ASPI - Afterdawn recommends to download the lastest ASPI drivers from adaptec and try them first (= v 4.70). Other sites also recommend using Force ASPI only as a last resort (Force ASPI = v 4.60) future reference for anyone else confused (like i was): Open up MS-DOS command prompt cd/ to the dir where ASPI is extracted to type: install xp32 --> press enter. done... you also have to run "aspiinst" as well. my system need a reboot for everything to take effect. Cheers for the input guys, or i'd still be confused now =)
i installed aspi and this is what it said C:\Documents and settings\Eric\Desktop\aspi_471a2>install.bat xp32 "Step 1 of 3 : REGISTRY MODIFIED FOR ASPI32" 1 file(s) copied. "Step 2 of 3 : COPYING ASPI32.SYS" 1 file(s) copied. "Step 3 of 3 : COPYING WNASPI32.DLL" C:\Documents and Settings\Eric\Desktop\aspi_471a2> after i installed it still says for the middle to on aspi check 4.6 what did i so wrong
