I burned a bunch of data CDs (photos) with Adaptec Creator 4 and didn't button them up (didn't "prepare disc to play on any CD-ROM"). After upgrading to Windows XP, Adaptec Creator 4 won't run and the MS XP burner won't open the unbuttoned CD's. What do I need to do to open them?

    Thanks.

    Hi there,

If you used the option "prepare disc to play on any CD-ROM" I assume those were CD-RW and they were burned with DirectCD ?

If it's the case, install Roxio v6.x or v7.x and install DirectCD to read them.

If they were CD-R, you burned them without closing the session ?
If it's the case, (with a new TEST CD-R of course) burn a few files, and don't close the session.

Then go back, and try to some other files, it should import the last session, and make sure to close this new burn session.

See if you can see all the files.
If this works, and it's what you have done, didn't close the session, you may want to try this above trick.

IF YOU DO, I AM NOT RESPONSABLE, this is just some things I would try !

    Thanks cougar.

I made my CDs with Adaptec CD Creator 4 and left them "open" so I could keep adding files without re-formatting or whatever that process is to get back in and add data after they've been buttoned up to make them readable on a CD-ROM drive. Wasn't a problem because Creator 4 could always get into the half-baked CD's to get files that I wanted. But now without Creator 4 it's a problem.

Seems like Roxio 6.x or 7.x is the answer if they work in two stages like old Creator 4. I'll give it a try.

    Hi,

WHen you burn a plain CD-R, you must CLOSE THE SESSION to be able to read it on a plain CDROM, but you keep the DISK OPEN.

This way you can add more stuff later.

    Close Session, leave disk open.

So you should not need Roxio installed if it was done like this.
