Hey guys, I had some problems with this earlier, and havent really revisited the problem since. I have a 200 GB IDE hard drive I want to add to my computer. The stock hard drive thats in there is a 320GB SATA hard drive. There is only one connector for IDE, so I've got one cable with two connectors, master/slave. My question is where the hell do I set all these jumpers now? I've screwed around with the one on my IDE HDD, but thats it so far. My DVD drive is running on the IDE as well, so I don't know if I have to set that one as well, or change the jumper on the SATA drive or what in gods name to do. It recognizes the drive when I go into setup before windows, but as soon as I try and enter windows I get the old flashing screen, then the dos screen saying hardware has changed, do you want to start windows normally, blah blah blah. Can anyone gimmie a hand with this?
is the sata still going to be your bootdrive? there is no jumper on sata drives for master, slave or cable select as that is for ide drives, for sata drives, that is done in the bios. as both the ide hd & dvd drive are going to be on same cable the the jumper on each drive has to be set for master on 1 drive & slave on the 2nd drive. you decide which will be which drive.
i had the same problem i just removed the jumper all together on my ide drive and it worked as a secondary slave drive but thats just me, i have 6 other drives i guess everyones is different
I don't know where I got this from so I just uploaded it to zSHARE . . . http://www.zshare.net/download/51478140aafd61be/ This is documentation from Western Digital about how to install a second IDE HDD where both HDDs are on the same cable. EDIT: Oh . . . well I didn't know that the jumpers are different depending on the manufacturer. (Just trying to help). But the web site of the manufacturer would probably have a manual you could download. (I would guess.)
