I have the latest OEM version of Nero installed and have the following problem. When I try to make a data cd or dvd and add multiple avi files, nero sometimes freezes up after selecting the first file to add. I can trick it by adding another type file and then adding the avi files. Then I have to delete the other file and burn.

When I click the first avi file, a small preview shot will sometimes appear to the left. When the preview doesn't appear, I know it's frozen and I can't do anything but shut down Nero (ctrl-alt-del).

Anyone know why this happens ?

I don't wish to encode the avi files. I just want to burn them to a blank CD. My DVD Player plays DivX/Xvid files.

I know nothing about programming but it seems to me Nero is trying to render or preview the avi file when you click on it. If we could shut off this preview, it may work properly.

I could use XP's built-in CD Burning software but I think it leaves the session open which I don't want to do.

Nero does not work well with avis. You may try change the codec of the avis with e.g. Power Video Converter or X Video Converter (set video to xvid and audio to mpeg layer 3), then try again with Nero.

    Good luck!

Thanks for your quick response. I don't see why selecting an avi file in Nero to burn would cause this problem. I'm not asking Nero to play the file, only burn it to a CD or DVD.

Nero's preview of the file seems to be causing this. I don't want to preview the file, just burn it to disk.

I shouldn't have to change codecs to work around this problem. Nero should just fix it.

    I paid for Nero
