Hi everyone, apologies if seen as too lazy to drill the search engine here, but I tried.

I'm backing up my DVD's as well as converting old VHS tapes and I use a USB 2800 dongle (KWorld/PVR/TVR) that is compatable with Ulead's MovieFactory4SE.

In that I'm using MF4SE as the capture app and its DVD 'add/edit' process (prior to its subsequent DVD burning) creates two sets of capture mpg's (the inital captures and the edited mpg's).

I'd prefer to backup my captures in VOB form (rather than later re-importing them back into MF4SE for assembling mpg's for a DVD burn) and here's my question. How can I modify (add new content to an already created TS set of files?

Apparrently when programs create a TS folder, AUDIO_TS, VIDEO_TS, etc., if we want to add onto or change the VOB files, we can't simply drag in added VOB's and/or overwrite the initial VOB's because of the IFO's & BUP's play an integral role in how the video will play on the DVD.

I understand a little about authoring, but not a lot and I read that for my purposes (modifying DVD files) that VobBlanker might suit my preference to work with TS files rather than the mpg's.

I realize that if working with vidoes in this manner, that the video aspect, bit rates, etc., likely cannot be mixed into the TS files and I'll need to maintain the format for any added VOB's, but am I missing anything about basically wanting to add onto an existing TS folder's files?

I assume that you have a number of DVD compliant folders.
If you use the likes of Nero Vision to create a new DVD, you can load the VOB's from more than folder, then when they are all loaded and highlighted, click the 'Merge Titles' button.
The VOB's then become one continuous video title and are then burned to the new DVD.

IFOEdit can be used to combine VOB files into a new DVD.
The files have to be renamed to follow the DVD convention:
    VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, etc.

Nero is a good choice but if you would like to chain them together to make a home movie check out Pinnacle 10 (not cheap 99 bucks) you can add music, talk over it,add titles and transitions and a lot more

    Replies appreciated.

So we can 'load the VOB's from more than folder' and then merge using Nero and other (?) burning applications.

I was hoping someone would tell me that perhaps Decrypter or Shrink might be capable of merging vobs in a VIDEO_TS folder (so as to basically add onto an existing DVD's content.

Also, still holding out on hopes that one of my two burning applications (TVR Plus and MovieFactory4SE) might likely be capable of allowing me to 'add vob's into a DVD VIDEO_TS folder' (so that the DVD will play the existing and added content).

    Again, appreciate the replies.

DVD Shrink can be used to merge standard DVD Folders (a standard DVD folder contains .IFO .BUP and .VOB files)
Click Re-Author and from the right side of the window, use the 'DVD Browser', find the folder and open it.
Drag 'Title 1' from right to left.
Browse again and open the next folder, and drag its Title 1 from right to left.
    Repeat as often as required.
    Click 'backup'.

Thanks for the reply, but your Shrink instructions seem to apply only for adding titles (not specific portions of existing titles).

Again, I'm looking for a means to view and edit vob files, so they can be added onto a new DVD.

One prog I have is KWorld's TVR Plus, it imports video initially as an MPEG (TVR thereafter can be used to edit and join clips, but this takes anywhere from 8 to 29 hrs to convert), then its DVD Burn application, its their burning application takes another hour or so converting MPEG files into a set of vobs and other necessary DVD files.

And excluding Decrypter and Shrink, my only other conventional burning application is MovieFactory4. Unlike TVR's application, MF4 saves the imported video (when set for DVD) as a Video_TS folder w/ifo, bup & vob).

Prob is, it seems the (my) issue of building DVD disc content, is that after its converted to vob form, I don;t know how to get any of my applications to re-open the vobs, allow me to edit or join other vob content and then get that compilation to play as a menued DVD.

Nobody yet has commented on the potential use of VobBlanker.

    Again, replies appreciated.
