I'm thinking of adding a new hard drive to my system, do I put the new hard drive on master or slave & which IDE if slave. From what I read my Plextor PX-708A likes to to be on Master, I don't know why or if it even has to. As always I look forward to your replies & yes especially u Petie ol' Boy.
    Note: I only have IDE.

Just add your new HD to the same IDE cable as yer current HD. Make sure beforehand that yer current HD is set as master, and the new one is set as slave.

When u reboot there will be no real big fanfare. It'll likely say it detected a new drive and then it'll tell u that it's installed and ready.

Then, you can look in *My Computer* and see your drive letters all shifted down. For example, if your current HD is C, and yer dvd burner is D. After installing the new HD, it will be assigned D, and yer dvd burner will be renamed E.

At that point, you can start installing software on it, or put files on it as if it were your other HD. Just don't install windows again. I'd recommend letting yer current HD retain that honor. The only other thing to watch for are the cooling issues. Extra drives mean extra heat. Make sure u keep yer puter innerds clean and well ventilated. Hope this helps.
