Ok, here's the deal. I am considering buying the xecutor 2.2 lite mod chip (don't no if I want to solder or not). All I want to do is install it so that I can play backup cd's. My question is this. Assuming I successfully install the modchip, do I have to do anything else to play the cd's. I've read about having to use a dashboard and creating new bios disk, etc. Is all that necessary just to play a backup cd?
wait, I think I misread your answer. So are you saying that all I have to do is insert the modchip and I can play backups without having to do anything else?
You will need flash the chip either before it's installed by using a programmer or after it's installed using a disc. Once it's flashed and installed you can play back up's. Use an Evox or X2 bios. RustyDog
Thanks RustyDog. One question though. Xecutor 2.2 Lite is supposed to be preflashed with Cromwell. Does this mean I will still have to flash it?
THe linux bios is only good for running Linux on your Xbox. If you want to play back up's you will need either an Evox or X2 bios. RustyDog
So let me make sure I've got this straight. I install the modchip. Create a bios cd (I think I'll use x2). Insert the bios cd into my xbox and turn it on. This will flash the modchip. And I never have to flash it again correct? So it is just a one time deal?
I wouldn't say never need to reflash it again. You'll only need to reflash if the bios needs to be updated because of a newer copy protection by M$. It's also a good idea to spend the little extra an buy the external programmer. In most cases it saves you time and a headache. RustyDog
Hey guys, thanks so much. I've ordered my mod chip and will hopefully have everything up and running pretty soon. Again, another question. I am trying to go through all the tutorials so I know what to do when the chip gets here. But I know I read something about positioning some switches inside your xbox (or maybe on the mod chip) depending on which version xbox you have. Can someone give me the link of a tutorial that explains that. I can't find it.
I would strongly reccommend the programmer. I thought I wouldnt need it, untill my Bios I flashed was corrupted somehow and now it wont even boot with the modchip on..so i am waiting for my programmer to get here.
I'm pretty sure your talking about the X2 chip with the switch for the different Xbox versions. It's labeled pretty well to make sure the switch is set correctly on the chip. Just make sure you know what version your Xbox is. RustyDog
Great. Thanks everyone for your help, especially Rusty Dog. Should have everything in next week so we'll see how it goes. I'm gonna try to do a pin header install and I believe I have everything necessary to flash via cd. We'll see.
