Hi everyone, Hope someone can help me out here. On Friday I downloaded a program called "alltoavi" as I was trying to convert a .mkv file to .avi. The website I got it from has been around a long time and I've never had virus problems from them before. Here it is: http://www.videohelp.com/tools?convert=MKV to AVI Anyways, I installed the program on my computer but it wouldn't open. I figured because that computer was running off Windows98. So I uninstalled it and since then I've had nothing but problems. None of the programs will open, Microsoft Outlook, Internet Explorer, Adobe, along with just about everything else. I just get a error message saying it was unable to locate the "______.dll" file. Any ideas how I can repair this?
If it is a spyware issue, you need to remove the instruction calling the dll file. If it is a legitimate program or file, you need to add the dll file or other supplementary stuff necessary to make the program run. If this just happened in the last day or two, you might be able to put back an older registry copy and see it that helps. I think win98 keeps 5 days worth of registry copies.
Ok, I tried that but the problem still exists. Anything else I can do? I checked out an few other threads and tried downloading AVG Anti-Spyware but it won't work on Windows 98. Any other programs I can check out?
DOS based antivirus http://www.f-prot.com/products/home_use/dos/ Superantispyware - product details indicated it would work with win98 http://www.superantispyware.com/index.html ( Google on windows 98 security produced this thread: http://forums.computeractive.co.uk/thread.jspa?threadID=93065&tstart=0 I've not read it, you'll have to be careful and check things out, but it may give you some more ideas. Backups of your important files, product/application serial numbers and ability to reinstall your programs would also be prudent pieces of an overall security plan for an older os like this.)
