    Hey,
Somtimes when I restart my computer nothing will work! I will double click on Firfox for example, and I see the sand timer for about 5 seconds and then it turns back into my normal cursor and Firefox doesn't open! The same thing happens with ALL other programs. The programs that start when window does work fine, but nothing else does! It takes about 10 restarts to get it working ok, but if I do get it working how it should, the next time I restart my computer the problem occours again! It is EXTREMLY ANNOYING! Any help would be very, very much appreciated! My system specs are below.

    Thanx!

    -WIndows XP Professional SP2
    -Athlon XP 2600
    -1 gig RAM
    -300gb Maxtor HD
    -80gb Maxtor HD
-nVidia gforce 4 MX series (it sucks!)

It sounds as if regular maintenance on your PC may have been avoided.
Try using CCleaner on your PC. It will fix problems with you registry and clean up various areas involving software, shortcuts, etc. Use a spyware program to flush your system of any unwanteds. I recommend Spybot and AdAware SE, also run a system virus check with whatever protection you're using. Lastly, defrag your system if needed. All in all, I think CCleaner will fix your main issue but the other options will also help to keep your PC up to par.

Thanx tEChniiQue, i'm scanning now w/ CCleaner! I'll let you know how it works ;) As for spybot and adaware, I already use them both regurlurly, and I also use the newest AVG Pro for my anti-virus.

    Thanx!

Your files maybe infexted with parite.b virus. It infects exe files and does not allow you to open them. Try a scan with norton and see what happens.

i think that a way that could help you would to do a system restore so that you can start clean (remember to always, always backup your important data)
    this would eliminate all bugs...

NB: This is only a suggestion if your computer blows up i will not puff on the ashes (so wisely quoted from the author of BlindRead) [i have to say this as a precaution, it is highly unlikely that any damage would be done in the event of a system restore]

I scanned with all the programs everyone mentioned w/ latest defs. w/ no successI do have SP2 but I put it on as sson as it was released. I think I know the cause of the problem now though, but I still don't know how to fix it after some research on the topic. I forgot to mention an error message I was getting: Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close. I know this is the cause of the problem, because after googleing "Generic Host Process" I found many other people getting the same error message w/ the exact same symtoms, but no solution to it. It appears after booting up my box, and prevents any programs that arn't built into XP from working (the stuff built into XP like windows explorer works, but VERY SLOWLY!), along w/ my speakers. However, any program can be launched and work properly if I open it before the error message pops up (about 10 seconds after my box has booted). Any ideas?!

    Thanx

i myself had experienced this problem with the exact same messages and also i have gone through all the sh*t with explorer crashes and i have to tell you, no software can fix these problems because they are at the core of the operating system, the only way would be to continualy upgrade your system and wait for a patch from microsoft....

this is why i suggested to you a system restore...

As far as I'm concerned the best cure to all your problems is magic command format c: It will help I assure you. :) Cause it's a kind of internal Windows error & like hell any software will fix it. Reinstalling Windows is similar to defrosting a fridge. It helps but not for long :) I beleive there is nothing to be afraid of. It's as easy as falling off a log.

P.S. Don't forget to back up your data. also copy saves from folders of your favorite games of course if you play 'em.

    good luck,
    Ieusha

Hi, I had system restore disabled, so I don't have any points to go back to. I don't know to enable it again anyway. Installing Norton Go Back wouldn't do anything cuz I wouldn't have any points to go back to, as w/ system restore. I have been and will continue to keep up with updates from Microsoft. How did you fix the problem when u had it, Phantom 69?

    Thanx!

RUN THIS COMMAND,in run..windows might ask ye for rhe install cd.its looking for the i386 files.
    sfc /scannow

what it does is scan your computers protected files,if any file is corrupted it will replace the file.if this don;t work then ye have a lot of research to try to fix it.

when your computer is starting up usually press F10 but make sure you press it when your computer has just been turned on or you will have to shutdown and do it again...

(this will only work if your computer is newer and you bought it with XP pre-installed) if not then you will have to boot with your recovery CD's...

REMEMBER TO ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR DATA BEFORE DOING A SYSTEM RESTORE AS YOU ARE ABLE TO CHOOSE THE OPTION TO ENTIRELY ERASE ALL OF YOUR HD AND REINSTALL EVERYTHING <!>

once it has booted into the recovery, select your options, wait for it to finish, reboot and fix everything the way you like it....

Sry for the long delay, my comp froze during the scan, and now I'm having a way worse problem! I started a thread here in an attempt to resolve it. The thread is called "My PC Won't Boot!" and can be found here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/280227

As I said in "My PC Won't Boot!" I wiped my drive and reinstalled XP. My comp runs error message free! I think the problem was do to a bad stick of RAM, and then the problem got worse and my comp wouldn't even boot! So I have the bad stick out, and I'll replace it as soon as I can.
Thanks for all the help everyone!!! I really appreaciate it!!!
