Most of you have possibly used this website but there seems to be a lot of unanswered questions to do with these drives so i thought i would post this. I purchased 50 4xDVD-R real cheap 25 for £9.99 and placed them in my freecom -/+ dvd writer to use with nero and dvddecrypter. All i kept getting was an error and the drive ejecting. So i thought cheap media and was gonna bin them until i done a bit of digging and found out that is was a rebadged NEC ND1300A drive/clone. Then i found out if i updated the firmware it might allow the discs to work. So i found this website http://www.herrie.org which had a list of cloned NEC drives with hacked and official firmware. So i download the hacked firmware and flashed it in windows XP and first disc i put in burned flawless. Now i am on about the 30th disc no coasters yet. The firmware also increased the record speed from 4.0 to a regular 4.3 ok so its small but the faster the better. Also says it has unlimited region changes but i have no reason to use this at the moment but its nice to know. It also claims that it can change certain drives from 2x to 4x but i dunno about that. So anyways now i bored you death you can go and have a look at there website http://www.herrie.org
Thanks for the info, man. My bro-in-law, just got an NEC off ebay for $39 US, and is having nothing but trouble. I'll pass your post on to him, it may help.
