I know its alot but can someone make a small list of the graphics cards that are better than the 9500gs thats on the computer im about to buy? its a HP Pavilion Elite m9300t.
I looked it up, and they are charging quite a lot for it. They add $150 to the proce of the computer for that card which is not very good for you. I know for a fact that the 8800GT is better and costs about the same. I can look up some benchmarks for you if you want. EDIT: BTW, how much are you spending on that PC in total? A budget would help here.
7900GTX 7950GX2 9600GSO 9600GT 8800GS 8800GT 8800GTS G80 8800GTS G92 8800GTX 8800 Ultra 9800GT 9800GTX 9800GTX+ GTX260 GTX280 X1900XT-X X1950XT-X HD3850 HD3870 HD3870X2 HD4850 HD4870 HD4870X2 at least, probably more.
if your buying a prebuilt computer, your going to most likely have to both the video card and power supply (depending on what card you get).
one more question, is the 9500gs really that bad cause I cant seem to find a computer with a better graphics card out of the box and I dont want a only gaming computer cause I want to do many other things. cause the ones im looking at are really good computers just a not so good graphics card. are there any sites where u can customize a computer? Thx
Agreed, you will get a much better result. Prebuilt PCs that can game and don't cost a small fortune are a rare breed.
I just found 2 with a 9800gt but ones overclocked. does that make a big difference cause the computer that isnt overclocked is better overall. there both around 1,100$
List now edited to show cards faster than 9800GT: 8800GTS G92 8800GTX 8800 Ultra 9800GTX 9800GX2 GTX260 GTX280 HD3870X2 HD4850 HD4870 HD4870X2 The HD4850 is still a better card.
thanks for the list and the offers but, I dont need anything extreme to be my graphics card I just want to casual game. Just for the record can the 9800gt play elder scrolls oblivion at full speed? if so what about crysis? (I doubt it can run that game full speed though)...
Outdoor Oblivion on 1920x1200 maxed out with no AA and 8x AF it should run it around 30FPS depending on CPU you get. That's with a 3 GHZ core 2 duo. Crysis it will NOT run maxed out. Just as a comparison a 4850 would be around 1.8 times faster.
just for the info the computer has 6 gb ram, 9800gt, and a Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 2.5 ghz Processor. so would crysis run about have speed or faster. oh and is 30 fps full speed? (sorry im new to computer gaming) thanks
what do you mean full speed? if you want to run crysis on high, then your going to have to get ATLEAST a HD4850. or you can get a cheaper card, but you'll have to tone down the resolution and quality.
Ok so your Q9300 is running a bit slower. I'm not sure how CPU bound oblivion is. Still you're going to get less FPS. Also FPS goes up the faster your computer is. There is no practical limit. Most people think more than 60FPS looks best.
Depends what resolution you play at - if you only use 1280x1024, a card like the 8800GT can easily max almost any game except for Crysis, which you could run at mostly high detail, perhaps medium shadows and/or shaders. If you use a high resolution like 1920x1200 though, you need at least an HD4850 to max out current games. For strategy games, 25fps and above is fine, for Crysis, around 25-30 is where it starts looking smooth. For faster FPS games or multiplayers, FEAR Combat, Unreal Tournament, Quake 4 etc., you really want 50 plus.
