I am going to softmod my original xbox soon to mod halo2(just for fun not to cheat!). I was wondering instead of spending the $30 on action replay could i use a Smartjoy X2 USB Adapter(http://www.consolestop.com/product_info.php?products_id=53) for $7.99. Does it do the Same thing?

Also I was wondering if the original xbox hdd is large enough to store halo 2 on it for modding purposes? If not What size hdd would be adequate enough? Please give me sone suggestions any and all help is appreciated.

for the first question and about halo fitting on the Stock HD...all you do is delete the campaign part of the game and it fits fine....

Yes and no, it will work, requires slightly different steps, some argue it to be easier or more difficult. But it's very similar, if anything, you may just use modified gameshark drivers that identify to the unique USB id that the memory card comes up on this way. Either way, you will be needing to connect either directly or vicariously, your memory card to your pc.

Some people even just wire it in directly to avoid all cost. But again, preference of labor versus cost.
