I'm having serious issues with Nero. It used to be a really good program, but lately does nothing but give me problems. To the point I need to ask, are there any other DVD burning/authoring programs out there that will give you the same versatility in creating menus that Nero 7 did? The only reason I use Nero is for the custom menu editing that 7 offered, and 8 doesn't give me the audio I want (that which come with the video clip)and every time I try to make my own menu I get a burn failed message,so it's pointless to continue on with it. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
GUI for DVD Author is pretty versatile too. Never used Nero for authoring so IDK if it's as flexible.
get the latest version of ConvertXToDVD by VSO! It does menus now and you can control volume of the DVD and everything! Plus it will convert many video formats to DVD and does it with QUALITY in mind! Here: http://www.vso-software.fr/products/convert_x_to_dvd/
@ punknudle, All good alternatives suggested here...But I was just wondering, what issues exactly are you experiencing with Nero 7?
Thank you all for your suggestions. I will try them all and see what happens, and let you know the results. @ pryme H, basically, Nero will tell me that the disk has burned successfully, but when I try to play it in my standalone player or even in Nero Showtime, it freezes up the standalone or the PC. But then I will try to burn the same project again, I'm just a glutton for punishment, and it works fine. But I really don't like using two disks to make one, if you know what I mean.
Is your Nero 7 updated to the finite version, 7.10.1.2? The playback glitches on your set top player might be due to mediocre-type discs or bad burns. I have this version of Nero, and it has been accommodating thus far.
freezing, pixelations, skipping and other playback issues are most because of poor media being used. The player is having a hard time reading the disk and therefore it has playback issues. Here are some remedies: 1. burning speeds: burn at 4x so there will be less writing errors (rule of thumb is to burn at half the rated speed of the disk--8X disk burn at 4x). 2. read manual for your stand alone player and use the disks that will play in your player. If your player is less than 2 yrs old then it should play the + or - R disks! I said SHOULD that's why you read the manual. 3. try booktyping your drive to DVd-ROM so it will make your +R disks more compatible to players. Read this: http://k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php 4. make sure that there are no finger prints or scratches on your disk that make it hard for the player to read the disk! 5. use good quality media (rule of thumb....buy the ones that are Made in Japan.) Verbatim is a top notch disk and is the only exception to this rule....some Verbatims are made in Taiwan and they are top notch! 6. and don't burn too close to the outer edge of the disk ..... which will make the disk unreadable! but using good media you will be able to burn close to the edge better than lesser quality media. Just in case I only burn no closer than 4400MB, so if you can set your programs to that, all the better! follow these little tips of the trade and you'll have better success! good luck. also read this: http://www.cdfreaks.com/reviews/Why-DVDRW-is-superior-to-DVD-RW/ why the +R media is better than the -R media hope this helps!
so if i get this right when you burn the same files to dvd a second time the dvdr works? well just do your project to files all the time stop nero and then burn as you would a second time... this problem could be caused by buffer underun on your pc, can you supply a log here to read, this may help alot... a lower end pc may get bogged down on resources while doing everything at once and not leave much ram etc to burn at a nice flow, alot of factors come into play, burning speed/discs used/size of project etc etc...
Well, thought I had the problem fixed. Started transcoding with NeroVision, writing the project to my hard drive, then burning it with NeroExpress, instead of letting NeroVision burn it auotomatically, like I had been. 3 beautiful burns, then another coaster. Tring CovertXtoDVD soon as I post this see how that works. Thanks again for all the help and suggestions
same thing, 3 encodings one after the other and burning uses pc resources. i bet if you rebooted after each it work everytime got a nero log of 4th bad burn will show you better i reckon from what you say its buffer underuns...
@Rotary Will try to reboot in-between burns, next time. Just tried the ConvertXtoDVD and it worked well enough, gave me a beautiful burn that even plays on my PS2(had to try). I just don't like having the chapters set at a certain time limit, each chapter. I like to insert them myself, where I see fit, not every 5 minutes or 10 minutes you, know? Thanks, for everyones help, though I'll keep updated until I get this sorteds out.
O.K. got it working right. Trying to reboot in between may have helped, but I started converting to VOB format from avi using WINavi, before working with the files in Nero and that knocked all my problems out. For somje reason, my PC just didn't like the built in converter in Nero. Thanks again for everyone's help and suggestions.
