I have: Windows XP Pro Sony DRU-510A burner DVD shrink 2.3 Nero 6 Ultra. My question involves backing up my DVD library to DVD-R in order for it to play on my DVD stand-alone that does read dvd-r. First off do I have the right hardware and software? Secord i have already attempted to back up a copy of the title RUN RONNIE RUN! I first ran the film through dvd shrink, placing the files in a folder on my HD, in order to fit it on DVD-R disc. I then opened Neo standard and used the MAKE DVD VIDEO option. I then added all of the files to the video_ts folder in nero and hit NEXT then BURN. The burning process began. The Progress meter reched 100% and paused for several seconds. An error window then popped up. After, I closed everything and thought i would give the failed DVD-R a try regardless. I opened it in WinDVD and it played properly on my pc with no problems. I then tried to play on my stand-alone. The interactive menu screen come up fine but i was unable to navigate or play the movie. Nothing in the menu was highlighted and it wouldnt let me play manualy, other then that the menu screen was on my tv screen. What am I doing wrong or not doing correctly. Please help. If this specific question was already asked and answered could someone post a link to that thread? THANKS A MILLION
hi, your stand alone player will need to be able to read dvd-r if your not sure do a search under this link; http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers
After the burn you should not get an error window. Check it out, download a newer version of Nero (I work fine with 6.0.0.9) and buy different media. I'd suggest Ritek or TDK DVD-R. Make sure they are 4x! The way you do it IS right, but you should not get this error message. When you don't, I'll bet it will work fine.
I personally use Nero 5.5.10.42 because there a good number of bugs in the Nero 6 range. I dont like to change things when they work fine
Ok since the start of this thread i have burt many backups and some have failed. i have noticed that when i shrink a movie in full version (keeping the menu screen) and change the video quality, take out certain sound tracks and subtitles, then burn, it has problems in my stand alone getting past the main menu (nothing is highlighted for navigation, thus not being able to select play and also nothing happens when i press play on remote and unit). When i use shrink to decrypt a dvd-5 movie in order to back up i dont downgrade the quality or uncheck any boxes, almost a straight copy. This is done in full version of shrink. The dvd-5 to dvd-5 works perfectly in my stand alone, functional menus and all. Next i used shrink in the re-authoring mode. i clicked and dragged only the main feature to be decrypted (while lowering the video quality slightly and taking off some of the un-needed sound tracks to fit on a 5 dvd-r), decrypted it and then burnt. So long story short when i dont mess with any settings in shrink, in full version, works perfectly. when i change setting in full version shrink and burn my stand alone will not get past the main menu. when i re-author just the feature, messing with the settings or not, it players perfectly in my stand alone. Does anybody have any suggestions? my player reads dvd-r. Im wordering if the settings are correct in my nero 6? if anybody has a clue please help. Or maybe a link to help would be wonderful as well. needless to say i have several coasters.
Ah....i see hwat you are doing now. Your right, you shouldnt really mess with any of the set-ups of the DVD's unless in re-author mode. This is because in normal mode DVD Shrink will not know that you have changed anything and therefore will not update/modify the IFO file etc...This is where the re-authoring option has come in to play. But, you have discovered that :-D
Oh man thanks a million. thanks for answering and confirming. you saved me many coasters and many sleeples nights. this forum roxors. end of thread.....???????
