I used DVD-Shrink to extract/compress an ISO file from an encrypted DVD. I then burned the ISO image to a blank DVD+RW. The copied disk plays in my DVD-ROM drive, but it won't play in my primary standalone DVD player. I've been reading some of the threads in this forum, and i'm pretty sure that it's due to the fact that my DVD player only supports DVD-R disks. Anyway, am I even doing it right? Should I maybe save it as regular files instead of an ISO in DVD-Shrink? Any help would be appreciated.
It sounds to me like you are doing everything right. I have burned movies from both video_ts files and iso images, and have had successful results in both. If your normal dvd-rs play in your player, then it sounds like an indication that the player doesn't support reading from the rw. If your dvd player is an older one, it may not support all of the formats.
As PDexter wrote, it definitely sounds like you're doing the process right, fatigue. If you can't find your DVD player manual (which should tell you what kinds of DVDs it will play, although sometimes it plays some that it doesn't list), then you might just buy a DVD+R disc and/or a DVD-R disc and re-do the back-up with the new type of disc. If you still have the shrunk files on your hard drive, you can just burn them again. If you've deleted them, at least you won't have to shrink the files again if you use the RW disc -- just have Shrink do the quick analysis and encoding, then burn again with whatever you used before. And if neither a DVD+R nor a DVD-R disc will play, well, your player might be one that can't read burnt discs so before giving up I'd try it in another player too. Keep us posted!

I can't find my box, or my manual, and it doesn't say wha t version the DVD player is ANYWHERE on the actual DVD player. I guess i'm screwed. I'll try -r next time (good media), and if it doesn't work, I guess i'm screwed.
FYI, I just bought a very inexpensive Oritron DVD player -- they're on sale this week at K-Mart for $39. I was highly skeptical at the price, but I bought one to try it out & it's played my burned DVD+R discs (on quality media, e.g. Ritek) without a hitch. It's also listed as playing DVD+RW, DVD-R, and DVD-RW, which is why I bought it. The next time you buy, just make sure the player plays the kind of disc you'll be burning -- or better yet, plays all formats. Good luck!

fatigue Your doing everything right like everyone says but does your stand alone read rewriteable discs?
That's the problem, I really don't know. It's an "Xwave" player, and I can't find out which model it is. Most of their players only play DVD-R, there's only one model that doesn't play burned disks. With my luck, it's probably that one. $30 isn't bad at all for a dvd player, I hope it's still on sale. If it is, i'll definitely jump at the offer.
fatigue, Have you tried +/-R's yet? My Xbox doesn't like RW's no matter what the brand. Also your process looks good, so why are you using RW's?
They were the only blank DVDs that I had at the moment, i've had them laying around for a long time. Anyway, problem solved. It WAS my player. It didn't support any format of burned DVD. I purchased a new DVD player from WalMart, a Sony (insert long product number here). It plays all types of blank DVD media (r/rw - +/-). I also picked up a 5-pack of Verbatim branded DVD-Rs as well. What I previously thought were coasters, are now perfectly playable DVD backups. They were Memorex, so I had my doubts anyway. Thanks for the help guys. I appreciate it.
