Soon I will be purchasing the Athlon II X3 435 (I will be using DDR2 for now), what AM3 boards offer good oc'ing potential (high fsb, core unlocking) at a reasonable price? Thanks, Lloyd. Oh, and I'm not interested in using intergrated graphics or a second PCIe slot.
Ok, I've found the Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P, it has good reviews and is only 60 GBP. Anyone know of anything better?
I generally advise against overclocking high-TDP processors to high levels (i.e. anything but a dual core, when you're looking at AMDs) with cheap motherboards, as they just aren't built for it. You should also be advised that unlocking extra cores (when it works, it's not guaranteed) often limits overclocking potential. In general, for a mild overclock that does not require extra volts, a 770 board is fine, but I would really recommend buying a c. £100 790X board if you wish to push the CPU to its limit.
