I have a amd duron 896 mhz proccesor when i go in my bios i can only change the cpu speed to 1200mhz is there a way to get it to at least 1.2ghz
that's about a 30% OC...generally, a rule of thumb is don't go higher than 10%...if you can afford it and want more speed, get a new processor/motherboard. *edit* unless you take the proper precautions, you're very liable to fry your compie.
my pc isnt frying but how do i check my speed after changing it in bios and how do i check my pc while im on it without going into bios i am upgrading to a amd athlon 64 and 1 gb ram but i wont to maximise this processor
if you want to maximize that processor, OC it to about 1 GHz and put Linux on it. then you'll have yourself and excellent server for everything from your internet connection to printer, as well as a great back-up pc.
yeh but there is only two options 900mhz or 1200 mhz but if i do change it if i click on system its still the same 900mhz
for older, slower pc's, it's a godsend. stable and very easy on systems, linux is the single best OS there is. while, overall, there's not much software for it, it has at least one decent proggy for everything. if you're going to do anything modern with that ol' pc, convert it to linux.
then quit worrying about your old processor, as you're not going to get much out of it anyway. what OS are you currently running? do you plan on using this processor in another rig?
leave the 900 speed as is because you'll have to get a bigger & better heatsink & fan to get rid of the increased oc heat. there are bench mark programs out there so do a search. run the program before & after you oc but still suggest don't oc
