I can't decide whether to get an Athlon XP or Athlon 64 processor, what speed the processor should be, and how much RAM I need. I don't play any games but I do some video/photo editing, video/sound/ encoding, and use a lot of office related programs. If this helps any, I want Adobe Reader to load in less than five seconds. Please help.
get the 939 socket board & cpu so you can have future cpu upgades that you won't get with the socket 754 boards that have or will be discontinued
thanks, now i should get athlon 64. can u tell me what speed and how much ram? by the way, if this isn't asking too much, what are your pc specs and what do usually do on your pc?
go with what you can afford. my system right now is a p4-2.4 celeron prescott cpu, 512meg ddr, 80gig hd soon to be 160gig, 52x cdburner, dvdrom with win98se. use it as a tool to fix other computers
thanks for your help. that's why i have to post so many times about this topic. i don't know what speed i need to do these everyday tasks. if someone could just tell me.
why do you still use win98se ddp? I personally hate XP, but am forced to use it due to new programs that only run on it. But I am a DIE-HARD fan of win2000 Pro. That is by FAR the most stable win OS i've ever seen. My server's got 2000 and has run for almost 4 years continuously
i can do things on the dos side that you can't do with ntfs & most of my customers use win98se with some with winme, a couple with win2k & the rest xp or home
okay I thought you probably used dos. I do a lot of audio editing (Pro Tools) and a moderate amount of video editing (usually Premiere Pro, sometimes Avid Xpress). My 1800 is overclocked to a 2200, and it can render video files quite quickly actually. I'm very statisfied with it. I actually do more rendering with audio editing. I can run two real-time audio plugins (RTAS) one each of 32 audio tracks simultaneously and the computer will keep up no problems.
