Is it better: analog to dv tape(striped) to pc "to get time code" or is this just a wasted step as compared to just using passthrough? I'm Trying to get best quality analog to dvd with option to edit. 2 hrs of analog to dvd needs slower bitrate(lower quality). If I copy to dv tape first(for timecode) I can cut/paste/edit footage better..correct? This should allow me better use of my footage, I.E. 1hr on one tape 1 hr on another ...etc

Editing MPEG2 DVD is simple also, so unless you plan on backing up to DV tapes then I wouldn't bother with the extra step.
