i am a tech-obsessive guy, and really want to get the xbox 360 hd dvd addon. the only issue is that my tv only supports 1080i/720p not 1080p. so what i'm wondering if that since hd dvd's are in anamorphic widescreen, shouldn't the player downsize the file to fix my current resolution? i would hate to spent the $200 and for it not to work. ,thanks
don't quote me but typically the tv will adjust the resolution, hence 720p televisions can play 1080i content. You might email microsux about your issue or call customer support before making your putchase.
Since you have an HDTV, the 360 add on will absolutely work on your tv. The add on, and all the HD-DVD players, can be set to output at either 720p or 1080i, so you'll have no problem. And if you're interested, you can read up more about the difference between 1080i and 1080p as it pertains to the video outputted from HD-DVDs. Unless you have a 1080p tv that accepts 1080p @ 24fps and displays it at a refresh rate of 48fps, 96fps etc, there really is no difference between 1080i and 1080p. Though since you have a tv with a native resolution of 720p, it's not really an issue for your current setup. Anyways, here's the link. It's a pretty informative overview: http://www.projectorcentral.com/retailing_HD-DVD_Blu-ray.htm
